Started the demo car build.

Nice! What subs are you using again?

my own I built. I do these SPL style subs which are pretty bad ass! They are built on a 12 spoke frame, triple stacked Y35 motor, non pressed pulp cone that is Kevlar infused (has small strands in it) with the backs glassed, motor to frame spacers, 3” 8 layer flat aluminum wire coils (tightly gapped), 10” carbon fiber dust caps, nomex spiders with tex70 nomex thread to sew the dual leads, 8 ga direct leads etc. Mathematically the subs have 33mm of xmax but if klipple tested allowing for I believe 10% thd it would probably be around 40 ish. While I do sell these and this car is being built not only for personal enjoyment but also to show them off, I’m in no rush to sell them like hot cakes. Still want to get more test equipment as sending them to klipple for example with these shipping rates now is just insane! I also have to build a test bench here (power supply with batteries and high power amplifier) as it’s a pain to go to my buddies and do the testing there. I’m not looking to make this a big thing at all, I do it mostly for the tax write off and cause I enjoy it.

I may be reaching out sometime in regards of interest in some killer subs made for a sealed box!

Brackets in the back of the box are done! I had to stuff the wife in the trunk to use the ratchet while I was inside the car with a ratchet going through the port end 😂. It is rock solid! Tomorrow morning I’ll do the lags for inside the enclosure to lock the front in place. Then we make it look like a wall! Stay tuned 😈.

Man, I'd love to have a pair of 18's built like the ones you are going to run. But if I'm getting something built besides the beehive motors its gotta be some crazy ****.

to get more crazier we add 100 more oz to the motor, add .5” to the winding width on the coil, Ti frame, 10” spiders, and a taller surround. Still keep it as a 3” 8 layer coil. You would need more than 3k tho. 2k min for each 2500 each would be ideal. I’ve free aired these things on 3k with ease. When I get the setup here and don’t have to drive 45 min to my buddies to do testing I’ll take some sub porn. On a 18” 12 spoke built just like the 15’s I’m doing in my car, it’s honestly the best all around setup. It’s also more cost effective, especially since they are about 20 pounds lighter so it’s cheaper to ship lol.

Almost got the top plate of the wall complete. Just tweaking the fit a tiny bit in spots and then will carpet it! Pics by sometime tonight maybe sooner! Wednesday I’m gonna do the Xs power D5100r under the hood and make all the wiring pretty.

Almost there, came in to take a break since it’s hotter than hell outside!

See, my definition of crazy doesn't really match up with most other definitions. I want lots of cone area, lots of displacement, and high efficiency.

I can totally respect the guy running 10 - 15" subs that weigh 55 pounds each on 40k watts. That's just not what I want to do. I want the most output I can get with the least input power and the least weight. I'm trying to put my jetta on a diet, it weighs 3800 pounds from the factory, last thing I want to do is add another 1000 pounds in audio. At that point I have no choice but to do an AWD swap and build the block to put down 450whp to keep the same level of "pedal fun" I have.

My dream subs would be some crazy neo-slug deal with a motor force in the 520 range, a super stiff and lightweight cone, a 3 or 4 inch copper coil, all the cooling, a low inductance, and a usable 70% BL x-max over 80mm one way. Hell, might as well throw in the good-ol JBL "Differential Drive" technology so you can't hurt the driver from a mechanical perspective. Oh, and it needs to be efficient so that it can use that Xmax on like 2k.

I absolutely love infinite baffle setups. Lots of output with low power input. Get a sub with a guerilla grip on coil movement(from an electrical perspective) and a low moving mass, and you end up with crazy accurate bass with some serious force behind it.

Because of the laws of physics, what I dream of doesn't really exist. At some point you have to add power. You can't have 6 inches of peak to peak excursion on 2k. For now, I think the 18's I have are the closest I can get. If you are up for having some fun I can send you a beehive and you can build a top for it and play around, lol.

I’m the same way, I could of gotten a truck and just did 4-8 15’s or 18’s but I wanted to do something using only 2 subs. There are always trade offs but the key is to trade off things that aren’t high on the list or comprise in areas that won’t negatively impact the goals. With these subs, the first versions I built i exceeded the limits of the frames so I had to shorten the winding width but that coil worked flawless on the Ti. Had to remove a layer on the spiders as well along with a bunch of other stuff. Then when I thought I was done I changed the cones….. again 😂. I wanted more efficiency and was able to knock over 100 grams off the weight without sacrificing strength.

I bet I can whip something nicely on one of those motors. What ***** is the cost just to make a couple of coils if I have nothing that will work. $150 just for a setup fee then the cost of 3 coils and shipping. It adds up quick lol

Lol, I know. But like I said, if you want to play with one let me know, I'll send it your way. There are a few people with the beehive or aura motors, having a top assembly available would be nice.

Man the interior shrunk lol. AC gonna really pump now 😂🤣. Just gotta clean the interior and do the head unit and the inside is pretty much done but some small finishing touches. Under hood battery will be done Wednesday and then next week the battery in the trunk followed by laying out the amps and distro blocks on the amp rack. Almost done!

Looking good man! It's basically a single-cab truck sized interior now, lol. Why did you carpet instead of paint?

Sometimes it feels like I should just buy a bigger car. My enclosure isn't a damn rectangle, and I'm so bad at math I'm having to build a test enclosure to make sure my measurements/math is correct...

Car reminds me of my brothers 2001 chevy s10 extreme lol. I hate the way paint looks on mdf and I hate painting as well. I’m old school so went with carpet lol. Behind the carpet every other part of the enclosure is painted black. I’m having stencils made so across the top I can stencil in the website. Gotta get some more decals made for the outside windows and for the acrylic on the cross over holders. Gotta advertise at the shows lol.

My weakness is the angle stuff as well. I can’t stand that! I say the same thing, could of bought a truck to do this but I didn’t want to do 4 plus subs. People automatically assume when that many subs are in something it’s gonna be loud. With 2 subs tho I feel there is more wow factor to be had. When it’s all done I’ll get some chicks to do reaction videos. See if we can do some hair tricks 😂
