Initial DSP 408 Setup

I already ordered the Pionerrs and some Pac Bass blockers. If they sound like crap, then, I will order the Daytons. What should I be setting my Bass amp at crossover wise? And, what should I be doing at the HU with the Bass crossover and subwoofer level. The gain is only about 1/3 at the most right now. The pressure in that little car is pretty intense.

if you already have it the LPF working at the dsp, you just leave it wide open at the amp. You can leave it as is and use the subwoofer level on the dsp as your mini gain adjustment.

hook it up.

I haven't installed stereo equipment since the warly 90's. Honestly, I don't want to do any more damage. The experts here charge $100/hr. to program the DSP. I'm really not comfortable messing with it. I'll have a hard enough time setting up the HU and the amp. Do I use both the HU crossover and the amp crossover? Do I set them both at the same crossover point? Do I max out the subwoofer level on the deck and then adjust the gain at the amp? I would think put the subwoofer gain in the middle at the HU and the adjyst the hain at the amp. That way, I would still have a little bit of flexibility with the subwoofer when playing music. I know it's pretty basic stuff, but that is about the level of my install skills.

bro I specifically listed full blown instructions step by step detail when you asked about the DSP and how to install how to set everything up in another thread and parts of this thread.... You literally let all that effort of me typing go to waste without even attempting to do a proper install and tune and all you complain about is how this is over your head when you had clear instructions all this time?

lets Try THIS AGAIN and SAVE THIS AS YOUR BIBLE

Turn off all crossovers leave it on full pass, EQ all set to flat on the head unit. Everything will be done at the dsp. Head unit volume at 90%(most can get there clean nowadays). Have the dsp master volume at 15/60 starting out. Have the crossovers setup completely like how i told you in the previous post just choose any point in the range I specified for each mid and tweeter with a 12 db slope to start off. After your do that, Now on your tweeter amp, select high pass filter and put it around 500-1000hz. For the midrange and midbass keep the high pass at the lowest the amp can go, the DSP will take care of everything if you set it the way I told you. have the gain around 1/3, now go up slowly on the DSP MASTER VOLUME till you hear the speakers start sounding like **** aka harsh and peaky, thats a good sign that you are slowly hitting THD levels. at this point play around with the crossover points and slopes like I said in the post to see what sounds best. Please man if you just follow instructions this is extremely EXTREMELY simple. I have a 65 year old buddy about to retire that learned this in two hours on his own with my general guidelines your age is not an excuse.

My lack of installation knowledge is what is holding me back. I saved all of that info. I'll give it a shot when my tweeters show up. What do I do with those link and save buttons? Also, if I'm setting up high pass channels, what do I do on the low pass side? Anything or nothing? What about when it says defeat?

Save allows you to name the channels so channel 1 could be left tweeter, channel 2 right tweeter, 3 left midbass, 4 right midbass, 5 left midrange etc... you can name it whatever you want, its just a naming scheme.
Link is to link up multiple channels together so you dont have to individually tune the left and right side if you dont want that level of complexity. So to use it just click link, go insdie and tap channel 1 and 2 selected and then hit join, then hit okay. Now hit link again and now click 3 and 4 then hit grouping button. Then hit 5 and 6, then grouping button then 7 and 8 then grouping button. i'll link pictures of how it should look like. This pretty much pairs your left and right tweeter together so whatever crossover you set for the right tweeter will be the same as the left tweeter, vice versa and it'll be seperated from midrange, midbass etc. they all now have their own groups. It doesnt matter what group is number what as long as tweeter/midbass/midrange is paired to their left/right counterpart then its all good.

However the downside is you cannot adjust left and right output levels properly so your left side will be louder than your right side even when both values are identical, this is just a physical factor due to the left driver is positioned right next to you therefore its always louder naturally. After you done linking and doing initial crossover and EQ tuning, you'll want to go to link and delete all groupings so you can adjust the left and right volumes for each side individually so you have even output levels on both sides. Then you can start working on time alignment afterwards.

for tweeters you dont worry about low pass. Again Low pass is cutting off whatever frequency thats above it. Defeat means the crossovers are off. For mids and midbass low pass settings.... REFER TO MY POST

So, when I setup the High pass on my tweets, I just leave the low pass side alone? I don't have to touch it at all, even though it is showing crossover points?

the stock 20000hz is where it should be at and you leave it at that. Thats the normal tweeter range. The only thing you worry about with tweeter is the high pass which blocks out midrange and bass frequencies. Low pass does not matter at all.

I checked the AB midbass. They settled at 4.5 ohms.

Amazon damaged my order of tweeters and are refunding my money. So, now I'm looking for a 0air of tweeters to get. Any suggestions? They have to fit in the speaker pods that I made.
