Self tapping screws usually get the job done. However, they are not the best when it comes to taking them out and putting them

back in. Usually that second or third time they won't get nice and tight anymore. You could also try a threaded insert. I haven't tried this personally but they look amazing. Something like this: Nutsert Kit Quite a bit of a cost if only going to be used a couple times but could be worth it if you think you will use it more in the future.

That Nutsert kit looks spot on. But I am all out of cash for this project!

You can always find cheaper, that was just more to give you an idea. This one doesn't look too bad: Astro 1427 Hand Rivet Nut Kit
