Setting gain with DMM

you would need a scope for that, but try setting it by ear just to clipping and then check the voltage. this will give you a rough idea and glad you got it.
Thanks for your help man.

Scopes are pretty expensive so ill play it by ear

I just got my new diamond 800.1 amp and I am trying to test it out right now.
When I have the gain all the way up I am only getting a 24.4 AC reading. This amp is suppose to do 800 watts at 1 ohm which would be 28.28 volts

Am I doing something wrong or what?
If that amp has an unregulated power supply, your output is dependent on input voltage. Does the amp have an unregulated PS and if it does, how many volts are you getting at the amp's power terminal?

yes they are just be careful not to clipp too hard and burn somthing up.
I think I am just going to set it to the rated power and call it a day.

I am going to be running a 15 inch ssd off it which is also rated at 800 watts so it will match up perfectly. And I dont want to risk damaging the sub because it is going to cost me over 200 dollars

I got it working. Not sure what I did wrong the first time. I think I might have had my head units sub output on medium instead of high. Either that or I did not have the meters in right

yes. clipping is basically driving the amp into making power that it really can't. but that would be at worst case clipping, just a little wont hurt. a lot of spl guys clipp ther amps sometimes. its when you overdrive them for long times, that your amps and subs will suffer.

The AC voltage for 300 watts at 4 ohm is 34.6 right?

I have it at 33 right now and it sounds as loud if not louder then my old amp that was 500 watts (Ma audio 300xe so it mighta been over rated but I was still running that at 36 volts or so)
