I picked up a Gladen SPL 1000C1 Amp to power my IMAGE DYNAMICS IDQ12 V.4 D4 12" sub, But my question is the control Knob that comes with the amp . Where do most put the knob level at, (before adjusting amp gain ?) - Min ? or half way ? , or all the way up ?
When setting up your Gladen SPL 1000C1 amplifier with the Image Dynamics IDQ12 V.4 D4 subwoofer, the control knob (often referred to as a remote gain knob) is used to adjust the volume level of your subwoofer independently from the rest of your audio system.
Here’s how to properly set it up:
1. **Initial Placement of the Control Knob**: Start with the control knob set to about the halfway point. This gives you a good baseline to start from. If it has a marking, that can help guide you as well.
2. **Adjusting the Amplifier Gain**: Before you make any adjustments to the control knob, set the amplifier gain properly. To do this:
- Ensure your head unit (stereo) is at a normal listening volume, typically around 75-80% of its maximum output.
- Gradually increase the gain on the amplifier until you hear distortion, then back it off slightly until the distortion disappears. This is where the amplifier is optimally set for your system.
3. **Fine-Tuning with the Control Knob**: Once the gain is set, you can use the control knob to adjust the subwoofer's level to your preference.
- If you find the subwoofer too overpowering, turn the knob down.
- If you need more bass, you can increase it, but keep an ear out for distortion.
4. **Listening Tests**: It’s advisable to listen to various types of music at different volumes to ensure that the balance between your subwoofer and the rest of the system is to your liking.
5. **Final Adjustments**: After a few listening sessions, you might want to go back and tweak the gain and the knob position until everything sounds just right for your taste.
By following these steps, you should be able to properly set up your subwoofer and enjoy a balanced sound. If anyone else has additional insights or experiences with this setup, please feel free to chime in!
