Pretty good deal right there

I probably wont be doing any racing besides the occasional wanting to go a little fast. But mostly trail riding or dirt road stuff. It doesnt have to be street legal, but I may ride it up and down my street. My neighbor has a little pocket bike he rides around on the street and I sometimes ride my 4 wheeler around our street, so i dont really get bothered by my neighbors. Also, i'm 6' and about 150-160lbs. (yeah, i know im a skinny f***)
I didn't even read the thread but after seeing this i can safely say you would probably be happiest with a medium size 4 stroke. 2 strokes are my personal favorites but they are not good in the trails. Try a few bikes out before you buy both 2 and 4 strokes. Buy one that fits you.......

Get a 125 2 stroke. You'll get bored with a 4 stroke trail bike too fast (trust me it happened to me) and the racing four strokes (250f and 450f) are expensive and require a lot of maintenance. I started out on a ttr125, had it for 3 months then moved up to a yz125 2 stroke. 2 strokes are great because they're light, fun, cheap to maintain, cheap to buy, and the way they make power will never make you bored like a 4 stroke would. You should be able to find an '03ish 125 2 stroke for around $1500. Good luck.

Dude, if I had anyway to get that bike here, I would be riding it right now. That is a sweet looking bike, and no doubt it's fast.

I'm sure you'll have no problem selling it.

if you just want a play bike, stay away from a mx,r(rm, yz, kx, cr) they are fun, but expensive to maintain, i prfer the new 4 strokes..easier to go fast, but then again 2 smokers do have a big grin factor. How big are you? To bad you didnt post few months earlier, i sold all our bikes, since we quit racing, would have made you a deal
how are the 4 strokes easier togo fast on??? all depends on a few things not jus 2 t to 4 t.. roughly

what makes u think the 2 strokes aight good on the trails? they can climb bout anyhill u point at, and a 250 2t has the same power as a 450 4t....

id kinda say whats been said, u can learn no problem in a day on a 125 and u should be good, find some1 who rides n practice on their bike, haha.. just not somthing too big that can like pull out from under you.. once u get it id say u decide, with the 2strokes u gota mix oil, change reeds, keep it jetted properly.. so it kind of a bit of work.. the 4 strokes u adjust the idle screw n go ripp it up lol..

sooo if u want an easy bike to bang around id say get a 4t 250 and jus go have fun

if u want to get more into it, get a 2 stroke 250+

the more u look at bigger bikes they seem to be smaller n not such a big deal, like 450's n 2t 300's..

You have a couple good points here, like the maintenance of the 4 vs. 2. But you recomend him a 250 4-stroke, or a 250+ 2-smoke. Those aren't really comparable bikes. And a 250+ 2 stroke is definately not a beginner's bike. If I were you I would stick to a 125 if you decide to ride a 2-smoke.

Personally I have a fan of the 2-strokes as well. The thing with 2-strokes is you have to keep the revs up to keep in the power band. It's not good for the motor to let the revs drop. So, you have to keep the bike wound out, and ride it pretty hard at all times. A 4-stroke you can lug down, and ride slowly if need be, which is nice on the trails, if you come to a tight spot, a log, or a big mud hole.

I learned to ride on a yz125. Any 125 2-stroke is pretty good beginner bike if its not modded at all. But i gotta say that my crf250x is way funner bike. Just the torque on it is amazing. Easiest bikes to ride are the 4-stroke trail bikes (don't have the mx engine on them). Go with an xr250 first and learn to ride with it. After that either go with a 250 2-stroke or 4-stroke (crf, kxf, yzf, or rmz). Don't go with the 450 because the power and torque on them is super beefy and most likely will get you in trouble.

and on a side note, they are letting 250 2 strokes compete agains 250 4 strokes on the amateur level //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

They run about the same lap times, they just ride differently. And on a hill, u'd want the low end of 4 strokes better than the high end of the 2 stroke.

well i kinda say that because of bike sizes.. i mean really what makes a 450 4t different than a 250 2t?? they are basically the same size only the 450 may be a bit heavier,

i dont know why i really said that.. basically the way i see it kinda is once u learn to ride a smaller/lighter bike u can throw around and get the feel of how bikes run

getting a bigger bike is all the same.. from 250-500 2t or 4t, the only real difference in 2t to 4t (handling wise) is the back tires spinning more on the 2t, but thats fixable with throttle cams..

i gess u could say a simple thing here..

get a 4 stroke if u plan to ride trails+streets every now n then like a casual riding thing with buddies, easy maintenance wont hurt gears goin slow messin around, and jus fill er up with regular gas..

get the 2 stroke if u want to get into the whole sport a bit more, being actively fixing the bike trying to get its peak performance and tinkering with it, + mixing gas. its really not much work to set it up right tho.. and racing or aggressive trail riding and hill climbs..

And on a hill, u'd want the low end of 4 strokes better than the high end of the 2 stroke.
well goin up a hill i have no probs at allll with my 300 2t

kinda depends on the gearing weather its close or normal..

but deff going down hills 4t is where its at with engine compression..

I've been trying to find used local bikes so I dont really have much say so as to what is for sale. I dont want to buy new because I cant really afford a new bike and I know i'll probably lay it down a couple times. I did find a 98 4-stroke yzf 400. It's in pretty good condition but may need tires pretty soon. The guy's asking $900 obo for it. What do you guys think?
