Want to get into the it field

That is an awful lot of training for one class, why not get the A+ for dummie book, study and go get your cert. Get your foot in the door somewhere and have them pay for training for you.

I got my A+ about 7 years ago and I am averaging over 13 posts per day //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I'm about to turn 18 in september and I'm tired of my current job will my a+ be able to get me a starter it job or should I just get it and try out for geek squad?

I know a little about computer but could use a touch up course, there is one at the same school for $780

That looks like it should do the trick, depending on where you get a job many places will train you for anything you want and unfortunately some things you don't want.

I assume this is just for the time being while you are going to 'real school'?

A+ will probably get your foot in the door, it did for me. Though I would suggest if you do not know shit about computers take a cheap class on A+ (They can be had for
I'm wondering if something as simple as an A+ would get somebody in the door and room to grow as quick as it did 7 years ago. Things are very different in the field, even from just 7 years back //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

A+ or network cert.

Then go for cisco's first certification.

You should consider community or regular college man. Pays off in the end and it's easier to get over in one shot when you are younger.

Could be, I know where I work we hire entry level people and require a A+ which is the minimum.

As for 7 years ago I do agree and now that I think about it I have had it 9 years and been with Macys 7 years so yeah I am willing to bet a lot has changed since I built my Pentium 90mhz in A+ class //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Still its a good start but as mentioned highly suggest college along with it.

Umm ya ya wanna make good money.. go to a $500 Allen-Bradley Rockwell automation plc class... jobs are everywhere for it and its relitively easy to do.. plus it pays $30 plus an hour

I took levels 1,2,3.. pretty low cost for such greatly needed experience

Yah I would get the a+ and get a better job so I could actually afford college since I make less then 300 dollars every two weeks with my current job.

With my A+ I have been offered a job here in this shitty *** town in WV 30k a year, which is phenomenal for this area.

If your doing IT, forget school and get certifications. You could go to a technical college and get a 2 year degree. But the IT field values experience and certifications over any degree.

At least that has been my experience. I will graduate from a liberal arts college in the fall with a CIS degree and a business minor, but it seems as tho my A+ has got me more job offers than my CIS degree ever will.

30k is low for IT anywhere in the US no matter what the cost of living is.

I agree, most IT work is geared toward certifications. Thing is after doing it for a number of years, you realize you don't want to do IT grunt work for the rest of your life. The easiest way to get to a mgt position (of course not the only way) is to have your bachelors + the experience.

If you only get certifications you're gonna be stuck doing that kind of stuff all the time.
