Is Car Audio Dying?

I blame the car companies.
Almost every car they make has a stereo (or 5.1 ch video sys) in it thats so integrated into the dash its too expensive to replace it at shop labor rates.
Yeah i agree with ya. The OEM companys are making stereos so intergrated into shit that you cant switch it w/o losing tons of features that people like and would be costly to add back onto it after replacing the deck. I kinda forsee even more people starting to use factory decks(with a processor like the 360).

But the OEM companys cant get rid of the space in your car, and where there is space, you can make bass.

Won't be changing the components until spring. Gotta figure out what to change to and then find the ambition to do it.

In my area there about 4 people with serious systems. And then theres a handful of people with best buy or circuit city setups. Other than that it seems really dead. At work.... things have slowed down quite a bit, and I see fewer and fewer audio customers and more and more assholes scouting for internet purchases.
lol where do you work?

If you are talking about sitting in amidst all of the patrons at a Sonic with your shit bumping then I would think that was pretty feggy to be honest. If there was no other patrons around and you and some friends were listening to music in the background that would be acceptable I guess. Although, to tell the truth, there is almost always going to be some other people around so I would just avoid that. Then again, at my age I go to the drive in to get eats and leave, not to hang out.
if he is talking about the drive in movies i always turn my subs on...i mean come on its a movie you need bass for when the grenade goes off by your head or a car crashes

Sounds like people in LA are starting to wise up.
You dont here stereo's probably because people are tired of getting their shit jacked, so they are being responsible

What a concept eh?
A lot of people and family members warn'd me when i was buying my car audio equipment due to roberys, some are even hating cuz i have a nice system, but yeah they tell me all the time im ma get jack w/e though

My system died because I went back to school. That and running a pair of 18's in a wagon with no tint was giving me bad dreams.

My front stage has benefited severely from that decision, I'll have a much smaller substage from now on... **** it.

I would say working in the industry that yes car audio is dying to the average consumer. There are still enthusiast like us on forums and elsewhere but the average person i think no longer see the benefits in it.

A couple reason i think are:

People get the wrong idea about car audio, i have no idea how many people i get saying they dont want a sub to go boom and annoy everybody because thats what they have been brought to think because of some people in the industry.

Also factory systems are getting too good for the average consumer, most people think a premium fosgate bose etc system sounds great and no reason to spend money on something that wont sound any better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Also cars are becoming harder to integrate with and work on.

Just my thoughts

I hate how this kid I know thinks his car sounds like it has a system, when it is stock. He plays it full blast all the time, and it is just distorted, stock shit. And when I got my system, hes like "Dude, I need to get an amplifier //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif:D:D:D" what should I get?

I've heard a FEW systems where I am. Most are just xplodes or bestbuy crap. Mostly because there are a bunch of rich kids who just want a "system" and go drop a few hundred at best buy and have them install everything.
