How should marijuana be regulated?

I'm not an anti drug person but I will give my views on regulation. I feel that the current regulation creates the perfect storm for marijuana. It keeps chains like walmart from selling it. Because of this, we have street pharmacists that take a big risk and make a large tax-free profit. We also have stable prices that are not subject to economic fluxuation. I think if marijuana were legalized, it could not be exactly the same as alcohol due to its medicinal purposes. It would HAVE to be regulated by the fda and would probably be prescription only which is not really any different from now.

Let's face it. The tax money would be great and if smokers weren't subject to prosecution it would be great, but there are lots of unintended consequences. It's not like it would just stay the same but people could get high in peace.

i agree with the last comment. the only major difference is you wouldn't get hassled by cops. however its a drug and would be treated like a drug. you would probably get charged for a medical card, and then prescriptios would probably be really expensive. in my opinion, why legalize it? no matter if its legal or illegal, if you light up and decide to go for a drive or go out in public, there's going to be some problems because you are impaired. weed is for chilling at home with your good friends and having a good time. if you can get weed to your house, then let the good times roll. nothing to worry about. so whats it matter if its legal? still cant have a good time with your friends at home?

should be like tobacco but that wont happen because it impairs you. It would probably be more like alcohol but like the others said that may be different too because it is used in medicine.

My guess is they might sell it in accordance to potency and regulate that and jack the price up a lot. I dont think they would treat it mostly as a drug though because you have just as many people smoking as you do drinking the way it is. too much potential. I would imagine they treat it like alcohol/cigarettes but edit the potency for medicinal/marketing reasons. I dont have a problem with it now because the punishments arent outrageous, they arent going to change too much aside from doing it in public. I think it should stay the same honestly, or for medicinal purposes because thats a joke anyway. Ive seen people complain they broke their finger 6 years ago and use it to get MJ

Tobacco impairs too, but people build tolerance quick.

Alcohol is used for medicinal purposes.
Lets step back from the "it must be regulated due to medicine" argument. Its a plant. Its a plant that you set on fire and inhale the smoke from (usually). Its not made, its grown. Its not eaten, its fuel in a combustion process.

And, if it were legalized, and you are prescribed to use it, you could go down to the local store and buy Budweiser brand or whatever well trusted brand name you prefer, in sealed packages just like aspirin or food. Or if the FDA wants to regulate prescribed versions of it, instead of buying it at the normal tobacco/alcohol/marijuana store, you could go get your prescription filled at the pharmacy, getting highly-regulated versions of the same product that ensure its really marijuana. If its used in food, it should be regulated for purity just like any other ingredient.

The rest of the population will just stop buy the local store and buy Budweiser brand pot on their way home from work, to smoke while watching the nightly news. No worse than buying a 12-pk on your way home from work.

All I really have is the 10th amendment.
Sounds great in theory... Doesn't seem like the powers that be pay much attention to that these days though. That one went by the wayside after the civil war which proved that the union is NOT held together by the consent of the governed but by the threat of violence by the Federal government.

x2..

I love how people say smoking is bad, but when you think about it people drink and get that angry drunk mode in them and start going crazy. Yo dont see someone smoking a blunt and saying " Ohhh man I wanna fight this dude so bad!" Ths world is so messed up its crazy..

Marijuana has been proven to be a much less potent drug than alcohol. That's why the 'gateway drug' argument sprouted life. The idea that its not really that bad, but if you use it, you will assuredly use worse things. Pot leads to coke leads to heroin leads to... whatever.

For me it went like this. Smoking cigarettes lead me to smoking pot. Wanting to impress a girl lead me to smoking cigarettes. Sticky underoos in the middle of the night lead me to wanting to impress a girl. National Geographic lead me to sticky underoos.

I guess they are all gateway drugs, better criminalize cigarettes, ***, National Geographic, and underoos.

Well, Thats a personal choice and booze could lead to that too. Not just weed. Everyone has there own tastes and how the effect hits them. Booze could lead to coke. You never know. But I still think its weird how people blame it on the drugs. Its not the drugs, Its YOU who has control.

x2. but it doesnt matter. people who smoke chronic will always smoke chronic-doesnt matter if it's legal or not. that's why trying to regulate it would be stupid- because if it is legal, there will be much easier acess to it, not from stores or smokeshops, but from your local dealer you have right now.
