How hard is it to build my own computer?

Building a comp is basically like building an expensive lego set. Look at stores like tigerdirect.com and neweg.com for some good deals. mwave.com can sometimes have some good stuff too. They usually have pretty decent deals on peripherals anyway
I understand that and can fit the pieces together...trying to decide what is better, etc?

You're high. They 'were' better 1-2 years ago, but they are getting schooled today.
ohhh, I havent really looked into computer stuff since proablly 2 years ago. Wasted enough money on that, now Im moving to car audio. Lol

anyways I always been an Intel person, never knew a whole lot about AMD, just from what people said and people I knew had it, it wasnt bad at all

Basically,i have a Sony Vaio..couple years old Pentium 4, 2.4Ghtz blah blah blah. I want a new rig but i hear i can get a bad *** unit for less than an inferior prebuilt cost.
I have a friend with an IT degree that could help, but is it something i can do by myself...about how much dollars if i do it? I'm not a gamer but i'd like a good fast machine that will play/burn dvd and need a butt load of storage for music etc>
For what you want to do you need to spend the most money on your hard drive. I'd say at least a 750gb which can be purchased around 200 or so. Top of the line board is I still believe the nforce 680 or 690i. those are like 250ish. Quad Core processor is like 280ish as well. Since you're not a gamer i would suggest no less than a 7900gs video card. I would get something above an 8600gt for futurproof reasons, but that's me. the price of a case varies as well as the dvd burner. Oh and you need a power supply. Dont got with the cheapo ones that come with the cheapo case. Get something by Antec, Thermaltake, CoolerMaster or if your money flows like that, Power Pc and cooling. You should come with a ballpark figure and i can put you something together and a place to get it. How far are you from Columbus?

tigerdirect.com ftmw

that place has mobo and CPU combos for CHEAP. i highly suggest going there for parts.

newegg.com also a great site, its where i bought all my stuff about 2-3 years ago... that comp cost me 600$ and was great for CS and a lot of other online games.

I will probably get a dell.
The computer I bought of ebay for $25 was missing most of it's case and did fine.

I am trying to find out what is the ranking of intel processors

edit:

as if AMD vs Intel wasn't enough Nvidia > ATI lol
Nvidia is back on top again? finally lol...

You should go to Frys.com they are cheaper than Newegg a lot of the times. or zipzoomfly.com a lot of their stuff ships 2 day air.
