How hard is it to build my own computer?

You can always keep your current hard drive and just add a second one for storage. 160/200 gb hard drives are pretty cheap nowadays and offer a lot of storage.

Way.
Buying a P4 today when the duals and quads are available and CHEAP, doesn't make any sense at all.

I don't know if they even still make P4's.
Okay. I didn't know.

The program suggests a minimum P4. I didn't know which was better.

Those dual 2 seem okay.

I would rather chose intel than AMD...even if I am paying for brand recognition.

Is there a Gighertz/power suppluy watts rule of thumb?

Say I get a 2.5 Gigahertz processor, is a 400w power supply enough?

Intel core 2 duo e4500 here

Gigabyte p35 motherboard here

xfx 8600gt (in case things actually start going dx10) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150229

2gb of ram is what i consider a necessity anymore here is some decent stuff

coolmax power supply, they have been found very reliable and stable and dirt cheap here

decent hard drive here

Whatever case you want, yadda yadda yadda.. that should last you a couple years. You can overclock that e4500 to 3.0ghz easy with the supplied heatsink as long as you pick a case with a couple 120mm case fans.

Building a comp is basically like building an expensive lego set. Look at stores like tigerdirect.com and neweg.com for some good deals. mwave.com can sometimes have some good stuff too. They usually have pretty decent deals on peripherals anyway

That is the worst advice in this thread. Don't EVER go with an ECS motherboard. Even if it is the last motherboard on the planet and you need a working computer to save your life.

You're high. They 'were' better 1-2 years ago, but they are getting schooled today.

Not currently. Intel's dual and quad cores are kicking the shit out of AMD.
Not really, they are faster, but for the most part its a negligible amount, personally I would go with whatever would get me a decent system for a decent price. The main thing I have noticed is that motherboards for Intel systems seem to be somewhat more expensive than those for AMD systems.

Solid right there. I have been using AMD cpu's for the past 8 years or so now without any problems and solid performance but I agree Intel is coming back strong now. You may not forsee needing that much space but with the price of hard drives now its rediculous to not get it. Back when I bought my 120GB (when it was the largest availible) I never imagined filling it, nor the 15GB I already owned. Currently I have over 1.3TB of FILLED space.

as if AMD vs Intel wasn't enough Nvidia > ATI lol

oh yea and newegg.com FTMFW buy what was linked in the quotes and you will be happy, or get similar stuff, but buy from newegg.com and your wallet will be happy as well.
