Basically,i have a Sony Vaio..couple years old Pentium 4, 2.4Ghtz blah blah blah. I want a new rig but i hear i can get a bad *** unit for less than an inferior prebuilt cost.

I have a friend with an IT degree that could help, but is it something i can do by myself...about how much dollars if i do it? I'm not a gamer but i'd like a good fast machine that will play/burn dvd and need a butt load of storage for music etc>

its fairly easy, especially if you have someone to help u out along the way just making sure sockets match and what not

and you can get a pretty good pc w/o being a gamer for CHEAP... the gaming pcs are whats so expensive

just pick out the hardware u want like the motherboard, video card if your motherboard doesnt come with a built in one, RAM, sound card, case with power supply, fan, dvd drives, and i think thats it for the hardware. maybe wireless card too?

I doubt you could build your own CPU unless you work for like Intel or AMD //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

what type of computer u trying to build anyway? gaming? emails? general use?
general use, want road runner installed on it. no games , DVD playback/burning, lots of storage for music downloads, ooops i do play alot of online games like poker, dominoes, euchre
