How hard is it to build my own computer?

meh I just have a geforce 6600 and it does alright. I'm sure it's cheap as hell nowadays.

Why does he need a top-of-the-line motherboard ? I don't see him doing a 10 drive RAID array, adjusting packet priority settings, setting up a network bridge, overclocking, or running multiple GPUs.
He's not gaming, but he needs a 7900 GS or better ?

It's late as hell, but why not? 8600gt is DX10. I mean yeah he can build a rig with onboard graphics and save a few dollars, but parts are cheaper than when i first started building. 5-600 budget would give him a pc with decent ability to upgrade. I look at it the same as car audio. You get what you pay for.
