How hard is it to build my own computer?

To be honest, I'd just grab a used rig.

My bud bought a used rig for $450 recently

A64 3200+

AsRock DualSata2

2gigs G.Skill ddr500 hz

160gig 7200.10 seagate

7600gt

with 19" crt

that things more than you'll need

it's quite easy to build a PC. it can come out cheap depending on what route your building the PC for. if your just building it for a bit of performance and looks it should not cost too much. maybe 4-600, and that is from scratch.

but if you want something that will do justice parts can come out a little more expensive. though before you go buying shit left and right, research the products and models of every other brand. like amps and speakers, pc parts are not all the same and each other brand can have a better build/performance quality of others. price tag doesn't say it all either. when i built mine and my brothers pc i ordered all from newegg.com they have excellent service there and do ship quite fast. at times i'd get my package before my tracking.

do not buy a motherboard with a built in video card. get a seperate video card.

question: why is a case with a side window panel ovverated? they look nice imo. expecially if you have nice/high end parts in the pc why not give it a little flash?

and dust in a pc isn't poop even with a window panel. every other month just take a can of duster and your fine.

screw the window, it adds nothing and maybe 10 years ago your friends might have said "wow, cool" but these days they are common and boring

if your gonna do a barebones, get a shuttle, they are nice

you can build a decent rig for $200-300 if you know what your doing and where to look

I just built this rig for $200 and sold it for $300 last week

x-gene mini cube w/300 watt power supply

Intel Celeron D 346 3.06ghz

ECS matx motherboard

1gb OCZ DDR2

160gb SATA hard drive

Geforce FX5200 video card

52x CD/RW

WIndows Vista/Office 2007

Here is what I am looking for:

Maybe 2.5Gz processor

2.5GB RAM (I like to multitask and it is my understanding that RAM helps multitasking)

Windows XP (Vista seems to require too much space)

10 GB hard drive, maybe 20 GB...

CD-r (I haven't burned a CD, but I might in the future)

Maybe a sound card if they are cheap enough...my current computer has an internal speaker and that is fine

Video card - I already have one. Hopefully it will work

Power Supply --??

I do not do any hardcore gaming. I would like to keep my current harddrive because it has programs on it I use from time to time I got as a student. It is legal for me to have the programs, I just cannot reacquire them as I am not in those classes anymore.

Any suggestions?

10-20 gb is nothing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

get a dvd-rw drive, almost the same price.

video cards vary depending on what socket the board has. newer one's probably are pci-express
