Fiberglass speaker pod build

take your time.. Tape EVERYTHING off around the area your working.. Do not use more hardener than is needed. You will waste resin if it cures to quickly. Make sure you have no air bubbles while glassing and in between layers.. Did i mention take your time?

When laying the mat you will sometimes see bubbles forming as mentioned above in which dabbing at them with a brush slightly soaked with resin tends to make them go away. Buy alot of the dispossable brushes from Home Depot/ Lowes. They are cheap, as you will go through a few of these through out your project. Using half inch wood dowels and hot glue work well to set the speaker rings in place and aimed in the position you want them to be in. If using fleece to make the initial shape of your pods be sure to soak the fleece genorously with resin. This makes it a bit more easy to set the first few mats of fiberglass. And watch the fumes!

this is going to be so gangster. It's almost fiberglassing time!

This give you an idea of what the build will look like and where the speakers will be. It's all i got so far, the planning took a while.

Dont use fleece, takes way to much resin to soak thru. Cotton rayon spandex blends work good. Anything with a good stretch in all directions. I grab my Wifes old shirts when I do projects. Use CA glue to tack the cloth to the panel. Spray adhesive will come loose as soon as the resin hits it. Or staple it to the panel.

A good tip, when you use those cheap brushes cut half of the bristles off and it will make the brush a lot stiffer and give you more pressure when working out any bubbles you get.

this is good advice

Finally got some work done today. I'm letting the fiberglass resin harden until tomorrow. Stuff still hasn't kicked in like 4 hours. But you can see how this is going to look now.
