Why would that limit port changeability ? You would make it wide enough as you would need and cover with ply like the baffle and the port would go through that. Or to ever change major all you would do is move the partition over to where you need it and put a new port and baffle on it ?

How would the partition be attached?

I would weld it in and if you needed to move it wider you would just grind the welds off and move it . Correct me if I am wrong but once you get your port size close in planning you would only be changing the length not the overall port size ? Well I guess if you start out with partition a little wide - as wide as your sub baffle will allow so you would have room to make port wider too ? And as big as your builds are I would mirror the angle iron on the back of it so it fits around the perimeter of the shell to stiffen it up more.

Ya but I am worried about stiffness and thinking welding it would be stronger ? But that would be cool too -adjustable !

I wouldn't want to have to weld and grind to move it. I will use angle iron on all the corners though

It's easy done than said ? That is if you have a small mig welder and a grinder ? Too bad we don't live close I would love to help you out .

I'm trying to decide on a welder right now actually. One of my uncle's has a welder at his shop that I've used before, but I don't want to build my truck at his shop and I can't take the welder home because they use it every day.

I don't think I'm going to buy a nice big expensive one, because that will set back the progress of my build a bit. I was looking at something as cheap as possible just to get the job done for now.

Here are the mig welders I'm considering:

Commercial MIG-130 Flux Core Welding Machine + Face Mask 110V Cooling Fan Black | eBay

MIG 100 Flux Wire WELDING MACHINE 220V 90AMP NO GAS WELDER Auto Feeding Torch | eBay

Arc welders are the cheapest, but I HATE arc welding. Quite honestly, I suck at it, lol. I'm not bad at mig welding. It is the easiest though, lol

Well have you ever used oneof the cheap 110v welders ? I wont say you cant use it but very hard and they really dont get quite hot enough , atleast the cheap ones. they do ok on sheetmetal and bodywork if you add gas bottle. But to make good strong clean welds on iron its going to take alot of practice. But a skill definitely worth learning. Those are the same as the ones harbor freight sells and may be cheaper there ?

What thickness of metal are you trying to weld. If it's only 1/8th or less, you would be ok with those flux migs. But they really don't get hot enough to do thicker. At least ours doesn't. I would say buy a arc welder and get to practicing. If you know the basics it doesn't take long to get used to it

There are better 110vmigs they just cost more and require 20-30 amp circuit dedicated to plug them into, most house circuts are 15 amp but not all.

And why do you wanna make a metal cage for again?

Unless you want a blow through thats gonna do 165+

I was leaning towards the 220v one I linked, because the uncle that I'm living with has a 220v outlet a foot away from the opening of his garage (for his giant shop air compressor). The 220v is only a 90 amp welder though. Anybody know if that would be enough for 3/8 steel?

Also, I don't like the fact that they don't have gas. Inert gas protects the weld, as far as I understand.

It'll be thre frame of my box so I only have to use a layer or two of 3/4 birch ply. It will also allow me to easily swap baffles.

Absolutely no way a cheap welder is going to weld 3/8 steel buddy. Your going to have to spend at least $500 on a good Lincoln or Miller.
