If your trunk is rattling and carrying on in an "infinite baffle" setup, then it's not really a true IB setup now is it?

Excessive rattling and flexing means there is a significant pressure built up in the trunk and the mass of the trunk lid is loading the subs. If the subs are loaded, they're not really running IB any more! Just to be technical.. haha
humm...price of enough tweeters to hit 140 db what...250? price of amps to power tweeters and wiring lets say 400 ...price of wood...50...well thats alot of extra cash
dang i could do this for like under 100 bucks? dang and here i thought spending 500 was a good deal.LOL! He didn't say what freq to hit 140 db. A pair of Klaxon fire alarm sirens are about $50 each, with built in amps, and should do well over 140 db.
Properly installed, meaning the barrier is adhered to the resonant surface, it's FAR more of a mass loading material than CLD mat. Plus you also get the transmission loss. That, my friends, is value for your dollar. This "mass loading" with foil backed butly rubber is not necessarily false; it's just limited thinking IMHO. If you want to load up something, use some mass already. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gifTotaly different product that tackles a totally different problem. a Sound Barrier will do nothing for metal rattles or vibration.
Fox I do agree with you on the Sound Barrier. I didn't wanna go really deep into my post all in one shot (makes for boring read) but I fully believe in the conjoining(is that a word?) of products to reach a goal. 10 layers of deadner is not going to do the job, you might better reach a goal using 1 layer of deadner, some closed cell foam and a layer of Sound Barrier...it all depends on what the end goal would be.Properly installed, meaning the barrier is adhered to the resonant surface, it's FAR more of a mass loading material than CLD mat. What we're really doing with VE mat is changing energy. We're converting mechanical movement to heat. This takes viscoelasticty, not mass. Although, mass does help. Question is, do you REALLY want to load your car down??? Save the mass for where it works for you best - in blocking noise.
The rest of what you say I generally agree with. Well put. I do think your 95% figure is way too high, but everyone has something to learn, i guess.
Someone get this man a cookie........and a glass of milk. Most people when doing this have an unrealistic goal in mind or are not aware of what they want a final product to be (IE: the guy who wants every since ounce of noise blocked out of using tissue paper in his car).
Expectations can also lead to mind trickery. Sometimes we think so great of something, speaking in general, that we continue to think it's good, even though it may not be. And with others stating their experience was good, if one person says theirs wasn't then they feel they will be looked down on.Ultimately it comes down to expectation of results. and......Defamation
In law, defamation (also called calumny, libel, slander, and vilification) is the communication of a statement that makes a false claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government or nation a negative image. Slander refers to a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report, while libel refers to any other form of communication such as written words or images. Most jurisdictions allow legal actions, civil and/or criminal, to deter various kinds of defamation and retaliate against groundless criticism.
Slander Per Se
The four (4) categories of slander per se are (i) accusing someone of a crime; (ii) alleging that someone has a foul or loathsome disease; (iii) adversely reflecting on a person’s fitness to conduct her business or trade; and (iv) imputing serious ****** misconduct (especially the chastity of a woman). Once again, all you would have to prove is that someone had published the statement to a third party. No proof of special damages is required.

All states except Arizona, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee recognize that some categories of statements are considered to be defamatory per se, such that people making a defamation claim for these statements do not need to prove that the statement was defamatory. In the common law tradition, damages for such statements are presumed and do not have to be proven. Traditionally, these per se defamatory statements include:
Allegations or imputations "injurious to another in their trade, business, or profession"
Allegations or imputations "of loathsome disease" (historically leprosy and sexually transmitted disease, now also including mental illness)
Allegations or imputations of "unchastity" (usually only in unmarried people and sometimes only in women)
Allegations or imputations of criminal activity (sometimes only crimes of moral turpitude)[5]
