yout HT sub......

sorry i keep comin back to this, but what sub do you have? and in your opinion, what makes the choices above great subs??
I have a Velodyne F-1000. Its a servo controlled 10" woofer with an 80 watt amp. It doesn't seem like it would be much but once I found the right placement for it in the corner I found myself lowering the volume on it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I would say the others I mentioned are good just based on the mfgs reputations for making great products. I've heard all of them in showrooms even though thats not a true test it does give you an idea.

Ive got a B&W asw 2500. Its ok, it could definitely be louder but it serves my needs for watching movies so...

Alex

I demoed the B&W and just didnt like how it sounded. Plus they are a bit expencive, that's why i went with the MartinLogan. Dont get my wrong i'm a B&W fanatic cause they sound so **** good, but thier subs just dont have the drive of the MartinLogan (I spell it with one word like they do on the boxes).

bump!! we're not done, we want more opinions!!!!!!!!!
DIY

Also working on getting a EVX-180B pro audio 18 for extended bass drum sounds.

Extended in which direction, HF or LF ? If HF, I have the woofer for you.

RE: EV

I used EVX 18" woofers in 1988-1992 in my van. Since then these woofers have been in

storage and recently I checked them out, the foam is rotted. Examining these

woofers closely it's obvious they are no match for what is offered in today's market,

not worth the penny to recone them so I dumped them in the trash. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I got the Sub, i work for a pro audio company that is EV dealers. When Telex bought EV the guy who worked in the coils department quit and the qualilty when to hell in a hand basket. But Telex finally got him back and now the quality is good again. B&C is also making a good 18 with a 4" voice coil. Adamson, maker of some bad *** line arrays has a kevlar 21 in with a 6" VC that i have never heard but want to.

The good news is; Monster woofers sell and there are plenty of people in the world competing in this market

offering good product to make cool DIY projects now. I see no reason to buy store bought subs. I went to the store and saw

a cheezy HT sub with a $2k sticker on it, looked like a toy for kids.

Many do look like toys for little kids. The problem is ppl who dont know like that "boom box" look and feel with lots of pretty lights that dont do anything.

j/k

The premade may be overpriced but I don't like fockin around when it comes to speakers, not even a sub so a DIY is out of the question for me. I listened to a 350 dollar Klipsch sub that had a 12" woof and 250 watt amp and it hit like a mack truck so i don't think it was overpriced for as nice as it sounded.
can u remember what model that klipsch was?!!?!

the EV's ur talking about, are those the same speakers that hang on the walls at movie theaters??

I suppose I will chime in. I bought the 15" Titanic kit from PE. It does everything I need. Low end is glorious. Output is decent. I would love to go ported or try another sub/box combination as soon as I graduate or get some excess financial aid, hehe. I recently retuned everything using the mic and auto setup/tuning that the Yamaha RX-V2400 offers after moving to a new house(much bigger room). I absolutely love it. I only use it on occassion b/c I can't seem to get rid of the ground loop hum unless I unplug the Satalite, so the sub is used exclusively for movies and music. If I was going to stay in this house after school I may give some effort to resolving ground loop issue, but ehh, I am lazy. I will give it a 7-8 out of 10. It does everything I need and then has the ability to jump the sliding doors off track if I so choose to turn it up.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif jumping doors off track is stupendous!!!!!!!! thanks for chiming in. send more people.

Will do. In all fairness that happened only one time when running all of the speakers I have hooked up. I have 5 Boston CR-85's front/rear/center channels and for the occasional (I want to make it unconfortable) times I add the B channels and add the Cerwin Vega VS-120's to the mix. So it was the pair of 12's, 15" Dayton sub and the 5 7"s all at full tilt. The sliders are mirrored (no it is not my house) I love watching them unjulate at lower frequencies. Yes, I suppose I am addicted. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I saw someone selling some TC 18"s. I would love to add another 1000watt plate amp and put one of those to the test.

u know, i wonder if anybody has built an enclosure like SVS's PB2-Ultra Subwoofer

i think this would kick ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL *** in ALL areas of listening for DIY subs.
