10” for EDM sub recommendation, lots of questions

Yeah I think sealed is the way to go, for me, anyway. I wouldn't want to go through the trouble of making a ported box, just to find out I messed something up or didn't like the sound. I liked the sound of my last sealed box, so I think if the SI SQLs deliver more punch, that's all I'll need.

I was thinking getting 1/2" MDF and doubling up to get 1", because it's much easier to cut the with a router. Maybe use 3 layers for the face of the enclosure. My last build (see photos) I used 3/4", and I loved the sound, but I remember that 4'x8' huge board was a pain to work with.

I think I'll make a trapezoidal prism. My available area is 24" wide, 19" tall, and 17" deep on the bottom and 11" deep on the top. My goal is to make the enclosure tall and wide and thin as possible without compromising sound quality. I'm open to feedback.

Also, not too many EDM songs go below 35hz. That's because most concert speakers don't handle sub 40 hz very well, so the music producers try to stay away from going lower than that. Yes, I am also a DJ. LOL...
Hahaha good to know. Are you telling me that most EDM songs stay above 35hz to say the 10" subwoofers would be sufficient?

You stated on your first post that you have a Palisade, then down the line you stated limited trunk space. Is that a typo or are you referring to another vehicle? If you have the Palisade, the sealed will work great since the cabin gain will add boom to the music. I dare say even an 8" sub would sound good in your vehicle.

Yeah the trunk space in the palisade is dismal when the 3rd row seats are up.

Approximate space for the enclosure is
17.5” deep at base
11” deep at top
24” wide
19” tall

Yes, most EDM songs stay above 35hz. EDM is more about feeling the hard-hitting drop than the room shaking. 10's will still hit below 30hz, in case you listen to stuff like Bass Heads.

So, you talked a lot about subs. Are you amplifying the rest of the speakers? If not, I would drop too much power into the subs. It will drown everything out.

Excellent point.

No, I would love to replace the door speakers, but can't justify that yet.

The factory speakers are Bose, which aren't bad- better than most factory speakers I've heard, but they definitely sound shitty with the volume up. I think I can live with them for now.

I just want to keep it simple now, and add some bass to what I got now..

I listened to a ported box at a shop, and I definitely prefer sealed. I like to think of the sub as a musical instrument, that plays the low notes that the other speakers can't reach. I like feeling the bass physically too, but don't get much out of the sensation that I'm drowning in bass, and want to hear the other parts of the music more clearly.
