Hey guys, I got a 1991 chevy cheyenne reg cab 2wd. It has a 4.3L v6 in it. I went to a mechanic and he said I should swap out the engine. Because I took it to him and the engine leaks oil like crazy. The mechanic took a look at it and said the whole bottom end of the engine is done. And it would be cheaper to get a used engine and do a swap.

How hard is it to do a swap like put a 350 in it or something along those lines. I will get a mechanic to do it for me.

depending on how much the mech will charge you extra to do it i'd do the 350..there a dime a dozen as are the 4.3's though..the 350's of that era have around 200 hp and alot more torque then the 6cyl.

if the truck is in good shape i'd throw in the 5.7...if its a rust bucket with alot of little probs just buy a newer car...How many miles are on it, and by bottom end noise does he mean rod bearings? is it piston slap? does it burn oil, can you hear the noise, were is it leaking? oil pan? rear main seal. ect ect?

like the whole bottom end of the engine is done. needs everything to be replaced on the bottom end. I could go through all the oil in the engine in a day. Leaks out pretty heavy.

Just gotta pull the engine out some how. That's the only thing I can't do. I could prob do everything else and if I don't know just come on here.
