You did not state "with an underpowered amp", you stated "your ported box probley sucked and a 1200.1 is not enough power for a L7. i gurantee that is why you blew them." First off, guarantee'ing that's why it blew? Pretty cocky for someone who is 100% wrong, on each and every point he's made. I believe this is why you have encountered the beatings that you've gotten here.i said semi because it IS possible to blow a sub with an under powered amp. and i said nothing about perfect clean signal. my original comment very much simple. calm down
i know i was wrong by saying that is would cause over heating and burning up the coil by it. but my comment wasn't coming completely out of the blue.
i admidted i was wrong get over it. stop trying to hope on a train that has left the station bro. this thread is dead

Now here you are STILL try to save face by saying you were 'semi-wrong' and giving some half-assed explaination why. Just stop, admit you were completely wrong (or just 'wrong'... none of this semi-wrong with a weak explaination crap).
No, your comment was not completely out of the blue, but your explaination (coil can't cool down properly) was definitely out of the blue. In all these underpowered debates Ive read or participated in, your is the furthest Ivbe ever seen anyone attempt to explain the incorrect theory about 'underpowering'.
How about this guys, we start leaving the word 'underpowered' out of these duscussions, clearly its blowing some people's minds (and I really cant blame them). Someone starts talking about a small amp driven into clipping, how it blew a sub, pretty soojn its labeled a 'too small amp'. Hence the completely 100% incorrect relationship between too little power and blown coils is born.
Let me explain something for those here who aren't getting it: when you take an amp that's smaller than the RMS rating of your speaker, then clip the hell out of it, are you still 'underpowering' your speaker? No, you aren't. So this 'underpowered' amp is actually capable of OVERPOWERING the speaker, which is what happened.
Stop using "underpowered" to describe a situation in which the speaker was actually "overpowered". Once this underpowered amp clips and output scales about the RMS recommendation of the speaker..... HELLLO, ITS NO LONGER UNDERPOWERING THE SUB. The fact the amp is rated at a smaller RMS than the speaker does NOT mean the sub was underpowered when it blew, so stop assuming so and stop perpetuating one of the lamest myths to come out of car audio ever.
Thanks.
edit" oh, and read my sig
math>umaybe i was thinking twice the twelve. how much cone does a 10 have?
Sorry, but you weren't even close to correct. Any explaination of what you might have meant is lost now, as you already explained what you meant, and it was 100% wrong.okay, i thought the rms of two L7's where more like 2100 not 1400(don't ask why). and by saying his amp size, does that not insinuate i was pointing at his amp being too small? and it wasn't that out of the blue. i didn't explain it well but i was trying to say that if your not moveing the air in your box enough then it is harder to keep the coil cool. but as i thought it made sense to me that if your not move your subs enough, then your not giving them enough power to over heat anyway. i was proven wrong? yes. was it wrong in this persons case? yes. was it completely wrong? no. do you want me to change the semi wrong to "a whole lot wrong"? does it bother you that much, someone you don't know said he was semi wrong. semi isn't half. don't think i was trying to save face and say i was almost right or half right or anything.
i did not try to sell shit. and i have problems with assholes who over react on everything. 1) i tried to help someone 2) i was wrong 3) people got angry 4) i tried to explain how i was thinking and try to tell people to calm down (not justify what i said)Sorry, but you weren't even close to correct. Look, Im not trying to beat you down. I dont know you, I really dont care if you realize how wrong you really were. But, I do care that threads like these, and people who refuse to just say 'ooops I was wrong totally' tend to perpetuate incorrect theories like the one you tried to sell us here today.
Actually, that's precisely what you have been doing. You just dont want to admit it, oh well. *shrug*i was not trying to say "oh no, i was not wrong. what i really meant was...."
i was not trying to add more stuff and change what iwas saying to make me sound more right. all i did was say what i thought. why i thought i was right. i know that i am wrong are you happy now?So, now Im an *******. Whatever. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
Im not interested in what you say you did, Im interested in what you actually did. You stated underpowering kills subs, then gave some lame explaination about not moving enough air. Now you come back and say well Im not totally wrong because I did say the word "amp" which does imply its too small which does imply what you are saying (but is not what you actually said). Its laughable. Again, whatever.
Actually, that's precisely what you have been doing. You just dont want to admit it, oh well. *shrug*
Yes, when I woke up this morning I decided today's activity would be to pick on "noviceguru" on the internet. Ive now succeeded, and I can rest easily tonight. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gifi was not trying to add more stuff and change what iwas saying to make me sound more right. all i did was say what i thought. why i thought i was right. i know that i am wrong are you happy now?
in general maybe but wouldnt a low tuned ported box get just as low as sealed, but in this case his sealed 15 could get much lower than the 12's tuned at 35hzsealed boxes get lower than ported boxes.
It all depends on what is defined as 'getting lower'. If that term means the lowest possible playing frequency (at any given volume level), yes the sealed system will win out, it does not have a tuning point to unload the sub below. It can play down to 1hz with virtually no concern.in general maybe but wouldnt a low tuned ported box get just as low as sealed, but in this case his sealed 15 could get much lower than the 12's tuned at 35hz
