What is going on with my sub?

the best explanation i can give it that if you highly under power the subs rms then they tend to not cool down properly. the subs well get enough power to produce decent bass but it won't be cooling itself down and your going to burn up the coil. if you ask the guy im sure his subs over heated and that is why they blew.
The only time under powering a sub blows it is when morons turn them up to clipping. End of story. There is no difference between a sub recieving 200wrms at full volume on a small amp or 200wrms at half volume on a larger amp. The only difference is after 200wrms, the smaller amp will begin to clip the tops of the amplified waves, sending the DC at points- thats when they burn up.

Other then clipping and sending a sub DC, you can move the VC out of its gap by playing under a ported box tuning without a subsonic filter. Basically putting a cylinder sideways in a slightly larger cylinder.

NoviceGuru, What you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response, were you close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having read that. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Be nice- its a common misconception perpetuated by audio manufacturers, retailers, and certain enthusiasts alike. In fact, a poll on this very topic could be conducted and reveal many people still believe underpowering a sub will blow it.

No need to flame someone because they believe what many people have told them and tried to prove. Don't hate- educate.

I know- but the guy makes one post off base and gets flamed. Its how caraudio.com works- but at least tell him why hes wrong.

You fucking dumbass how they **** are they gonna get hot if they arent even getting power to play?!?!?!?!?! Sure if your poundin the hell out of them then they will heat up but if you arent then they wont get hot in the first place to even overheat.

YOU ARE STUPID!!!! LEAVE THIS FORUM NOW!!!!

There is not a DC signal in a clipped AC waveform. The current is still alternating which is what makes it AC. The reason that subs can blow on amps rated at lower power is because clipping causes the amp to put out more power.

Power is what thermally blows subs... and power is power, whether it comes from a clipped signal or not. You can blow a sub mechanically while underpowering it but not thermally (unless the sub is very overrated).

But yes, since a small amp puts out more power when clipped, he could have very well blown his subs that way.

But to the OP... the 15" CVR is hitting deeper than 2 12" L7s because 15's have lots of cone area and can really move the air to have a deeper sounding bass. That, and L7's aren't known for having the deepest hitting bass out there. They usually peak in the 40's

precisely

i don't have the research on my computer right now. but it has been proven that under powering a subwoofer is more likely to blow it then give a sub to much power. i bet i sound **** stupid right now and i wish i could back it up. if i find the research i'll make a new post. but if you put a rockford 325.1 to a jl you'll blow it before you would if you had it to a jl 1000.1
until you find your said info...................shut up..................and the beatings will lessen

yea, i just read his comment and posted, then read that a page and a half of people bashed hime already, it happens
im not trying to lessen my shame but your a dumbass. there is know way you would make a post like that with out reading what everyone already said.

but so far i feel that i have been semi proven wrong. i have been looking and only found that underpowering a sub well only blow if you have the amp pushed to hard. hence clipping it and causing damage.

im sorry i caused such a riot. i should have gone over my research before saying it rather then trying to remember it.
