What is going on with my sub?

I use to have two 12" kicker L7's in a ported box about 3 cubes being pushed by a jbl 1200.1. Then they blew so I just picked up a (1) Kicker CVR 15" in a small maybe 1 cube sealed box. These was suppose to be temporary until I got my Fi Q, but the kicker is playing lower than my L7's did and it sounds a lot better. Am I missing something? I was going to get the CVX 15" and put in the same box but the current setup is sounding so deep I only want to get deeper not really louder. What should I do?

Thanks,

your ported box probley sucked and a 1200.1 is not enough power for a L7. i gurantee that is why you blew them.

under powerring a sub doesn tblow it.

by that theory if i have a L7 and i have a 2,000 watt amp and i never play it loud and keep it at low volumes i will blow it, doesnt make sence does it.

box wouldnt blow the sub either.

the only way i see in his set up that could have blown the sub is he didnt have a subsonic filter tuned to the box/sub, or just sending the sub a really clipped signal

i don't have the research on my computer right now. but it has been proven that under powering a subwoofer is more likely to blow it then give a sub to much power. i bet i sound **** stupid right now and i wish i could back it up. if i find the research i'll make a new post. but if you put a rockford 325.1 to a jl you'll blow it before you would if you had it to a jl 1000.1

the best explanation i can give it that if you highly under power the subs rms then they tend to not cool down properly. the subs well get enough power to produce decent bass but it won't be cooling itself down and your going to burn up the coil. if you ask the guy im sure his subs over heated and that is why they blew.

^^you=idiot

Underpowering a sub is not going to blow it unless another part of the setup is fucked. Any research you have supporting your theory is not going to be credible.

He probably had them wired wrong, or had them in the wrong box and thats why this 15 sounds better.

How did you have them wired? And what are the specs on that amp?

Does underpowering an electric motor fry it?

Or Does overpowering an electric motor fry it?

You tell me
