Want a new sub(uber)woofer 18" or so.

Which 18"sub? (not all are 18"s)

Okay..., maybe it was just his setup. Who knows.I would imagine a large 18" subwoofer would hit pretty low, and tuning it correctly, it should sound plenty good SQL wise.

I don't see the huge problem you're describing, especially if it was "designed" for SQ.
are you sure? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

there is no problem, i'm just saying that for those people that are buying these 18'' subs, they aren't using them for sq/sql, they use them for spl because they have the most surface area aka more output. probably any 18'' was not designed to be used for sql. as i said before, the sx is a more spl/sql sub. when u throw in that huge *** displacement, ur gonna get more output. like i THINK wErd has in his sig, u can't have 110 db of highs and 145 dbs of bass and still call it sq.

I wanted just one sub for simplicity, I figured an 18 would have a high output, but the size of it allowing it to hit pretty low, and be loud but filter out some of the higher freqs so that it doesn't sound like crap.
wtf rawr, what do u want from this sub. u just said u wanted it to be sql oriented, but u want huge output...and what exactly do u mean by "higher" frequencies? most music bass is in the 60 and down area.....is that what ur talking about?

i didn't say that. what i did say is that if ur buying an 18'' for ur system, ur usually looking for high levels of spl. high spl does not exactly mean good sq.
what if you want it to be loud at some times and then you just want it to blend well at other times? That sounds like the definition of an SQL woofer to me regardless of the size. I'd say my setup does that pretty well as well as countless others...

it does not look like ur running an 18 however. come on now, when someone want's good sq bass, they don't look for a ****ing solo x or mt 18.

wait wait wait, ur FIFTEEN inch is tuned at 45 hz, and ur telling me that you still get sq out of it...i'd need to hear that one unless i am missing something.

also, look at the thread title. uberwoofer 18'' does not exactly make one think about sq, now does it?

I went with 18" inch because I wanted 1 big powerful subwoofer.

Instead of 4 12"s that leave me with no trunk room.

I don't see how you get SPL is derived from simply more power. I'm sure you can get powerful SQ, what you are implying is contradicting what you are saying???

SPL setups tune up the ports to 5hz under the car's resonate freq. or so, the higher the freq the higher SPL levels?

I figure I could just get 1 18" and have it sound good yet still powerful.

one thing i will add here that suprisingly no one else has...

an 18" woofer, ported, in a spare tire well... im gonna go ahead and say good luck. i cant see anyway you would get enough airspace for that large of a woofer and a ported enclosure in a wheel well. you might as well just build atraditional wooden box and put it in the trunk or wherever, cause you would have to build that spare tire well up so much you would actually lose more usable trunk space than with a normal box. so ya might wanna consider that before you dive into this...

my suggestion for woofer would lie with the RE woofers(xxx or sx), or the avalanche as suggested by dbfan. any of those would be solid choices.
