voltage problems

just disconnected all of the wires, and still had the issue. the only thing i can think of is the nut on the alt + isnt tight enough on there, but i got it on as far as possible. (cant fit the socket wrench on the nut) but i tightened it by putting the socket over the bolt and tighten it as much as possible. wtf?!

go test the alternator. how many batteries do you have.

Also your idle problem could completely unreltated to this issue. but the addition of extra current needed might make the alternator work harder. Do you have two batteries? anyways, the big 3 opens up the flow path and that means less resistance so, that extra resistance could be inportant to your charging system. I would start by making sure your charging circuit is like my lil drawing, simple. then take your batteries and alternator in to be tested. Then check the resistance across all of your new wires.

Now, you car look like it is running like crap. check your fuel filter, injectors, and plugs. make sure you dont have any gasket leaks around the valve cover.

Do all that , then come back with the results.

^^^ this... my thinking on the situation, is that your car probably had pre-existing condition, that has only become very noticeable, with the extra load put on it from the alt. check your plugs... make sure their not fouled... if they are, you have a fuel problem... either a bad injector, clogged filter, or bad coil

well i just played some tunes and the voltage is like ten times better. i think it did correct itself. cause now the idle is good and before the big three at full tilt at the hardest hitting song i got (monster by kanye west) it dropped as low as 11.9, now with the same song, the voltage doesnt go below 12.6, next im getting a ho alt. prolly dc power

yea the battery light is what scares me on yours. mine never did that unless the voltage got below 13 volts, i see your light is on at 13.9-14 volts. check all your under hood fuses also and in car fuses. the alt wire is probly the hardest wire on any car i know of to tighten. its a big PITA. you gotta get a ball joint extender of some sort to get it fully. have autozone or someone check your alt also with there machine they will do it for free.

oh yea and get rid of that battery and get a drycell or gelcell battery.

Dude I'm going thru the same ****. Started a little bit ago but was not a big deal tip now

Got a brand new 220 amp dbelectrical alternator today and put it in and it does the same ****. Removed all my big 3 and it did nothing

Tell me this

If you come to an idle in drive like at a stop sign, does the voltage drop?

If so, what if you put it in park or neutral?

When I idle in drive my voltage drops terrible, lights dim..when I put it in park it all goes right back up to normal

the main reason that this happens, with a new alt, is cuz it puts alot more strain on your engine... and thats really noticeable at idle.... sometimes it just takes your ecu a lil while to "learn" a new fuel map... and sometimes it can just be a pre-exisiting condition, that has only become noticeable with the extra load on the engine..

i would give it a few days, and see if it corrects itself, and if not, start by checking your plugs for fouling (as they will usually give you a sign of there being a fuel problem)

Sounds light that could be a possibility, the pully on the alternator might be a little larger.. I have read about people breaking the alts in too, but it had already done this with my old alternator (12 year old 130 amp)

Also it idles perfect in park
