the sad reality of my system...

youre an ED fan correct??? do you have an A series???
Yup to both.

the 15A that im looking at is from the second production run i think?!?!?
if it's got that Aluminum backing on the cone, you should be good to go.

For your app, I would choose the RL-p or 15A over the Avalanche, as the Ascendant sub isn't as good for small box apps...

from what ive read. its a great moofer. and 2.2cubes sealed isnt a big box IMO.

i got my tempest in 4 cubes sealed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/bawling.gif.6287aa5d1d447c8af063fc9466e822ef.gif

gets real low. gets pretty loud. but i want more //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/satan.gif.9c6a335ed7aeeed3ee273e573f1fcaac.gif

we shall see.

//edit

you knew i was gonna link ya there.

The recommended ported enclosure for an Avalanche 15 is 3 to 3.5 cubic feet tuned between 27 to 32 Hz. For SQ I recommend 3 cubic feet tuned to 27 Hz. For a little more output shoot for 3.5 tuned to 30-32 Hz. You can also go even bigger if you want more output. Let me know if you have any more questions and I will gladly help you out.

look at that customer service. 3@27 sounds great. maybe 4 cubes net. you will be astounded from all the threads ive read //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

i know chad is really good about answering all the questions

up on SiN... i have no complaints about REs customer service

either...

i added to the thread over there and hopefully there will be

more light shed on my situation...

i'm actually finding myself sold on the idea of an avalanche 15. i might have to get one just to see what they'll do. ima try re first though cuz of the group buy.

edit...add another vote for the avalanche even though i haven't ever heard them

but theres nothing on the group buy that compares to the avalanche...

i'm getting 8 re8s and either sx or xxx 12s or 15s cuz of the 15% discount...still haven't decided but need to soon

sounds good... im sort of interested in hearing 8 8"s that should

be interesting... especially for aggressive metal...

If you were going 8 8's, I wouldn't go with the RE8...
go Koda's, or wait for the TC-based 8 to come out from SS.

im not actually doing 8"s... i just think it would be interesting...

probably a royal pain in the butt to build the box for them though...

ugh...

is TC = soundsplinter???

Soundsplinter is basically tc subs. I guess the rl-i is the same sub as the tc3 and the rl-p is slightly modified tc9.

I think I would go with the rl-p over the eD A series. Both the 15a and the rl-p use the tc9 motor, but I believe the rl-p has some updates or better features. I know that the rl-p uses a dual spider, which makes for a more aggresive suspensionwhere as the eD uses a single. i am not sure how this works, but this is what mike from ss told me. If you have any questions go to soundsplinter.com and email. He is very helpful and usssually responds immediatelyI personally am considering 2 rl-p 12's in a ported box. I was also considering the single 15" XXX but I think that because of the added cone area of the 12's the rl-p's will outdo the 15" XXX slightly in spl and I have heard some good things about the rl-p's and about every sub using the tc9 motor for that matter.

The A will take more power (which you have) get louder, sound slightly better, and has 10mm more xmax. The O is newer, doesn't have the T-joint, and is guaranteed under warantee. Both are the same price within a few bucks...there's pluses to both sides of it.

One thing to keep in mind is that, on the O series or the rl-p, the warantee will be void if you're using the viper (unless you wire them the O to get 600ish watts). The rl-p is supposedly a great little sub that can take a ton of power, but you're voiding the warantee by hooking up more than 500 watts to it which you will do no matter what with that amp.

So now you're looking at 3 subs, one is impossible to have the warantee on with that power (rl-p), one may have a warantee if it's transferable (A), and one that you can have the warantee be honored if you wire your amp to give 600 watts (O).

Good thing is you've heard the O series, and you like the sound, that is something to keep in mind. Other than that, all the drivers I'm sure would suit you quite well, and the choice will come to the small details. The avalanche sounds like a very promising driver, but as others have stated, it needs a larger box so that is probably out.

one is impossible to have the warantee on with that power (rl-p),
I wouldn't say that. I don't know too many companies who warranty a blown woofer, if it was from obvious abuse of the driver. The warranty against defects in material and craftsmanship would still apply. But, just like with any other woofer under the sun, don't blow due to overpowering and there is nothing to worry about.

"All of our drivers are covered by a one year manufacturer's warranty from the date of your purchase. This warranty covers defects in parts and craftsmanship, but will not cover customer abuse or negligence. "

Blowing it due to obvious overpowering would fall under abuse and negligence. And I imagine eD has a similar warranty.
