the sad reality of my system...

as many of you may know ive recently acquired a 15" XXX... im running it

sealed off a viper 1200.1 in my honda accord... yesterday i finally got around

to setting my gains according to the proper tutorial... 1200 watts at 1oh is around

34.6 volts... the amps gain knob is so touchy that the closest i could get it was

around 31 volts... any little smidge higher and all of a sudden the voltage would

skyrocket to anywhere from 50-60 volts... obviously not good... but my sub was

disconnected so i wasnt hurting anything...

im pushing nearly 1000 watts at my XXX and its not loud enough... i know the

XXX wants more power and a ported box... i know i could get another amp... i

know i could build a ported box... i know that would help... but im not willing to

give it more power... i dont want issues with my electrical system and im not

willing to mess with an alternator or have multiple batteries to support a daily

driver music system... bass is cool... but its not worth all that when i know i

just need to find the right sub for me...

the proper ported box for a XXX 15" is also something that im not really going

to get into messing with... it would require an in car build and take over my

trunk... as it stands i already feel like im driving with a dead body in my trunk...

what im not sure of is if i like the sound quality of the XXX itself or if i like the

sound of a 15" sub... because i do like the sound... i know i havent always made

positive posts about the XXX... but it has grown on me... and it really is a great

sounding sub...

with my limitations... namely the viper 1200.1 and the space issue what sub

may suit me better... is there a 15" that sounds as good as a XXX that i could

port in around 3^3 max and be the right size box for the sub... and push with

a thousand watts???

or would i be better off to go back down to a 12" and have more options because

space wouldnt really be a factor for porting...

maybe a brahma? i had my 15" brahma in a 3.2 ft^3 ported box tuned to 33 hz. and it sounded pretty good. i had around 1450 rms going to it. also i heard xxx need more space and bigger box size to really get going then a brahma.

i know ive been a slave to the dual 12" setup in the past... in fact

ive even nazi'd one into the girlfriends car against her will... i kinda

wanted to at least try a different 15" that would suit my situation

better before i went back to the 12"s...

i know soundsplinter is out of 15"s but how much of a ported box

do they take???

anyone know the space a ascendant avalanche needs?

with the brahma being so close to the XXX i dont think i would be much

happier with that than the XXX...

sorry to hear. never actually heard a person disappointed with a XXX, a 15" for that matter. the brahma 15 says it works with 2-3.5 cubes @ 28hz, maybe u wanna try that. or like squeak said, 2 12's, such as 2 e12o's? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

jazn... MY dual 12" ed e12o.44s will be going in my GIRLFRIENDS car... grrr...

im not pleased about this... but honestly... car audio in her car is on a different

level... i dont know what it is about that cheap *** sunfire... but it loves bass...

my car on the other hand hates bass and fights me at every turn...

basically she is getting the system I want to listen to in her car...

saosin... i watched your vid... i know the 12" XXX would fit a hell of a lot

better in my situation... but im not giving up on the 15" ??? unless i just

cant find something that would work well for me... ive had soo many 12"s...

i think i change subs so often so i have excuses to build more boxes... hehehe...

i honestly liked my ported SE a little more than i like this sealed monster...

through my own mental process ive come to these conclusions...

im never going to be happy with car audio in this car.

the XXX 15" is not what i want... its not the subs fault either...

a brahma and a XXX are too closely matched for me to be let down

by another super sub.

i dont want a used magnum.
