the sad reality of my system...

You need something that gets loud and sounds good in a small sealed box, but you wanna be able to go a little bit overboard with the bass. Two 12s will fit that bill perfectly.
A single 15" will do that, in a smaller box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If he doesn't have the room to properly do a XXX 15" ported, he probably doesn't have the room to do dual 12's, either...unless they're sealed, which makes no sense in a situation like his.

and the '15" thing' happens to be based in some actual differences between a 15" and 12" driver - namely, higher output (more displacement) at similar power levels, deeper frequency response (enclosure dependent, of course, but generally speaking)...etc, etc.

I have a single 12" now...going to a single 15" soon, so I guess I'm a little biased //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Wow Saosin! That video is so cool... I love to see people's subs go, but it's cool cause I can hear the music in the back so it's not just a sub randomly pulsating.

How does a single 15 have an advantage in output over dual 12's? Were you referring to a single 15 vs a single 12 because 2 12's has a decent adavantage over a 15 in cone area so they should get louder if all other cariables are the same.

Also, if I understand this correctly, the 15 should have the ability to go lower than the 2 12's, but the 12's will play a little higher. So generally, you would need a stronger midbass to play low enough so that you can crossover the 15 low enough and not try and force it to play the upper frequencies, which the 12's should play better and a 15 may struggle with.

The original poster has a space constraint. If he can't fit dual 12's in the trunk, he can't do it. I wasn't rattling off absolutes here - I was giving the best answer I could under the restrictions of the install. I realize full well that two 12" drivers have a cone area advantage, but since two 12's don't fit the confines of the install, the point is academic at best //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Not correct. The only reason a 15 plays lower than its 12" counterpart is due to the extra cone area. Dual 12's would have more cone area than a single 15 so would have the ability to play the lower freqs with more authority.

lets see... why do i want to try a 15" again...

well the only 15" ive had is the XXX which is now

in my kitchen... i dont think i got to experience a

15" properly... and i dont want to give up on it

until i feel as though ive gained some experience

with the bigger sub...

lets see how many dual 12" setups ive had...

2 jbl's [sealed and bandpassed]

2 JL w3v2s [sealed]

2 RE SEs [sealed in 2 different boxes]

ive also had some single 12"s

1 jbl ported in 1.8 at 32

1 RE SE ported in 1.8 at 32

1 RE SE ported in 2.2 at 32

1 ed e12o.44 sealed in .75

1 ed e120.44 sealed in 1.6

so as you can see... im not so much hung up on a

15" as much as im sick of 12"s... and i want some

experience with new and different gear...

for the T/S genius' out there... what does the specs show

would be so very different between the RL-p and the 15A ???

thanks.

Not to mention that two sealed 12s would still own one 15 sealed and be almost right on par with the 15 ported but sound cleaner. Of course I'm also speaking in generalities, but I can tell in your case it will mose likely be true and much easier to accomplish

*sigh*...
Lets just put it this way. I never really liked any ported 15 setups I've heard. They all get really loud, but just don't have that nice tight punch I love from sealed setups. I guess I don't like to hear my bass as much as I like to feel my bass.

hey man which one u think was better the .75 box or the 1.6 box..cause i have 2 e10o.14 ...im only running one now in a .7 box....its sounds good...low end is nice...but its like missing something...not sure wat it is...but when i get my nine1 ima be running 2 in a sealed box wit .75 each...i was wondeering should i add polyfill or not?? wat do u think man ....(900 rms ..so like 400-450 each)

Dude, why are you so stuck on the 15" thing?
I think thats the best way for the average joe shmoe to get great bass without taking up a lot of space and without having to try a million boxes.

who said i was a schmoe??? thanks...

im not exactly new ya know... and i do have a fair grasp on what im

doing... i just keep having bad luck i guess...

the 1.6 was night and day... sooooo much better... whatever

the max recommended spec for the 10 is... try to get something

just a tiny bit smaller... i think the 12" recommended between

.7 and 1.7 so i did around 1.6 and the displacement of the sub

cut down the volume ever so little as well... the sub is perfect sounding...

ive never added polyfill to a box...

AV15.

are we done yet?

i mean come on! it will fit in 1.8 with 1000~1200w @ 1 ohm. will play real low with that kinda power. exactally what you need for your trunk

pweeeease?

today is your lucky day my friend. sell that XXX to somone for $300 and buy this
http://www.ascendantaudio.com/Avalanche%2015.htm

2.2cubes sealed will get yourself bass that rivlas (or betters) the adire tumult, this sub will play all the way up its bandwith with no faults, and down to 15hz with a rumbling sensation you wouldnt believe.

i read a 6 page review on the sucker. and the guy knows his stuff. straight head to head on 1000w with the tumult vs. avalanche.

i am getting one of these this summer. you can bet on that. id be comfertable with 1kw (rated at 800w) in 2.2 cubes. and its WAY more efficent than both the brahma and the XXX. closer to how the RL-P performs with lower wattages.

i want one now. i want a box that fits in my trunk //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/bawling.gif.6287aa5d1d447c8af063fc9466e822ef.gif
OMG req... where's that review!?!

i sure hope that a avalanche 18 can take 1500wRMS... and from what you say, it sounds like it has good SQ.... Gimme!
