Sub/Box question

Alright... this question has been asked and answered many times... but not fully.

Now I have my nice sexy 15" XXX and I love it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

But... its only in a 3.75 cube box... will increasing the cubes to about 4.25 and also going from 35hz to about low 40's increase the SPL?

If so explain why... I want to increase my SPL but I also want to know why... (I think thats the biggest thing with people who do systems... they may ask help on what to do... but they never find out why.. so it makes more sense and that way they learn something)

BTW this new box will use port plugs and the low 40's will be for comp.... I will drop the other plug down to 30.

Will this increase SPL... will it hit lower? Higher? Tighter? Sound like crap... give me the 411

ok ..2 be honest i would rather have the 15 in the 3.75cube tuned at 40 hz..that will increase your spl and the woofer will stay within its xmax limit....now when put the 15 in a 4.25cube...tuned at 40...2 things is going to happen....u will get alittle more output in the low end but the xmax of the speaker will be out of its limit once u start to hit the

20hz.....where as the 3.75cube tuned at 40 will stay linear down to 15hz..basicly...if u go from 3.75 cubes to 4.25...you will hear a slight difference but the xmax of the speaker will see the difference more.....now if u make a box thats 5.25 cubes yeah u will be louder..and u will have more output once u hit the looooow notes..but agian u will hit the xmax limit sooner than if u had it in a 4.25cube....the bigger the box the less power u need 2 push it...the smaller the box the more power....thats it in a nutshell...

Umm...in a ported enclosure, playing notes a half-octave below tuning will cause problems. So if you play extended 30Hz tones with a 40Hz tuned box, you're going to drive the woofer into mechanical failure.

The port plug idea is fine, just don't expect to play tones under tuning. For competition, you'd want to burp it at the vehicle's resonant frequency anyway, which is what you'd want to tune for.
