im going to pick up one of the 5 1/4 neo subs and the dayton 25w plate amp for my computer set up. it may get plugged in to the tv for movies but im not expecting too much at all. i was planning on doing a simple sealed box but im not completly sure if itll do what i want it to. i would like it to play up to around 120hz and down to as low as it can get. im pretty set on this combo unless someone can point something similar out for around the same price. should i go with the sealed? volume? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

I have my Dayton Classic DVC 8 and 25 watt plate amp that I will sell you for 45 plus shipping //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif It's from my old setup, with the 8s in my towers I have no need for a sub woofer now...

Dips pretty low in the right box, I have it in a TL right now and the F3 is 23hz without room gain //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Edit: You can build something like this: http://www.partsexpress.com/projectshowcase/triskaSub/index.cfm I don't know about that design, but you can always make another...

no thanks. im pretty set on that combo i mentioned. any idea on what to shoot for on a sealed box? unless a ported box would have the extention i need...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

it will be mostly for music with an occasional movie or two.

honestly not gonna get too much from a 5.25" sub especially sealed

esecially for movies

just would be expensive and time consuming for not too much gain

maybe the klipsch promedia 2.1, ive seen it for around 100 for the sub and 2 speakers, i have it and it dosent sound bad

i concidered that , but im trying to go the diy route. im not expecting much and i would be seated less than 8 ft from it when watching movies and around 2 ft when listening to music in a 10x10 bedroom. just looking to actually hear the low-er notes not feel them.

im still concidering picking up one of those keiga 2.1 amps and ditching the t-amp but thats a bit more expencive.

Don't listen to anyone in this thread thus far; I actually own two of those, and let me tell you, they will surprise the shit out of you. You take them out of the package and they look like cute little speakers, but they move a good 11mm before breakup. They make very good output for desktop music systems. They also have a lot of impact for some movies (obviously u-571's explosions might be a bit beyond it).

However, the problem with this driver is not that they don't have a lot of output, it's that they are a gateway into wanting more. You see what one 5.25 can do, so you want to see what two does, then four, then the 8" neo sub, etc. Therefore, what I recommend is that you make a dipolar alignment with them firing from adjacent sides (not opposite as traditional bipolar designs). You will need them to be wired out of phase with one another, but it makes it so you truly get a more "immersive" sound. It's even better if you can have it to the side of the desk, maybe in a corner somewhere for maximum benefit.

If you can't do that, get one of the neo 6.5" drivers instead, and power it with the 75w plate amp on PE. Just my advice.

Holy ****ing penis, they were under twenty bucks on a special when I bought mine, I had no idea they were so expensive. Then again, they're worth the money.

sounds good. like i said , im not expecting one to shake things off shelves or anything , just to bring out the lows. and im sure ill piece together a 2.1 reciever combo sometime in the future but for now , i think this would do just fine.

do you think there would be any problem with the 5.25 extending that low/high? my 3" tb's play down to around 100hz before serious rolloff so the xover point would be around there. and what about enclosure size?

Go ported, around 0.6 cf, 28-30hz, and it should give useable output down to 30 hz. Not bad for such a little guy.

A 6th order bandpass should also work well... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

30 hz seems a bit low. thats what my 15" is tuned at , lol. my Assassin 8 i had was in a .8 @ 40 hz box and was pretty well rounded. i never watched movies with it though. would i have the upper extention i need with a box tuned that low?
