No, you won't lose mid bass by tuning low. The upper end response is not as dependent on the enclosure as the low end (in a bass reflex box). Tuning near 30 hz should give a fairly flat response all the way down to 30 hz. For home audio you want to tune low to extend the low end instead of tuning higher which will create a peak in midbass frequencies.
