first of all i wanted to say hi, i'm a total newbie to car audio.

I had a friend of mine install my amp and sub in my car, it's been working for over a year now but then i left for college and i came back and now it doesn't work correctly.

The subs don't work unless i am in park or if i am applying the brake at a stoplight, then the sub will turn on for a brief second. 2ndly my system is suppose to run at 2 ohms but when i got back the light on my amp says the system is running at 1 ohm. I haven't changed any settings and i doubt anyone else has since i've been gone cuz nobody drives my car. Do you guys know what could be causing this problem and what i can do to fix it? Any help would be helpful, thanks!

check to make sure you have the subs wired correctly, maybe a sub blew and is ohming lower than normal since its blown, tis possible. As for the subs only working when in park or braking, i would think that who ever hooked it up hooked the remote wire to your brake switch, but then it would only work when your pressing the brake, not when its in park and your not hitting the brakes. If anything tho, the first thing i would check is all the wiring. Make sure everything is connected correctly, maybe some one was in your car while you were away and changed something.

Sounds like your amp's remote wire is shorted to your third brake light //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Funny prank, like wiring the horn to the brakelights.

Or remote control hydraulics.

Tis what I was going to say.

If he drove a manual, he might be able to get away with it, heh.

Wiring the remote switch to the brake light circuit...that's...genius.

what kind of amp do you have that tells you what ohmage you're running at?

well about the third break light issue, i've had the sub and amp hooked up for over a year already and it was working just fine, i wouldn't even know where to go to tap into my third brake light. I have a clarion amp that has a light that turns on when it runs at 1 ohms. Could there be any other problems causing this? o yea thanks for all ur quick replies.

Right under the rear dash;

And I still vote for it's shorted.
