Alright.... I've got a question.. First off, in a sub what difference do you hear in a sub meant for SPL, and one meant for SQ?? IF you are wanting to make an overall SQ system doesn't the sub just overpower your mids, and highs?

I'm just trying to figure out what I want.. If I want subs that are nice to listen to my "regular" music with, or ones that are "fun" to listen to "Blue Berry yum yum" on.................

True SQ setups have their subs blend in with their frontstage. Almost sounds as if there is no sub and just really good midbass. Some SQ setups don't even have subs. But the difference between an SQ oriented and SPL oriented sub is significant. As 60ndown mentioned, SQ subs sound like music. When I had my previous RL-p 18, it sounded smooth and blended in real well. More of an SQL setup though. I used to have a DD 9515 and it sounded like poo compared to it. Got loud, but didnt sound as good IMO.

So when you get SQ subs you aren't someone looking for "Thump" right?

Since I don't have the money for a SPL/SQ sub, it almost seems pointless? My front stage will be "decent" so if I really just want to listen to music wouldn't it make more sense to just turn the subs off? hmmm...

Alright... Right now I have two type R's in a ported box (pure SPL right, not even closely oriented to SQ..) and will be purchasing an RSD comp. set very soon... Does it make sense to sell one of my type R's and replace it w/ a 100$ SQ sub? or does it just make sense to turn the sub channel off when wanting SQ?

I would say that you still would want to have a subwoofer. Unless you are using 8'' midbasses then chances are that your midbass setup isn't going to be able to produce sub bass (say 90-30 hertz). You would still want something that can add some low-end to your sound, thus, a subwoofer.

I think you would be better off selling the type R's is you want a pure SQ system.

i would sell both type R's and try to get something from image dynamics. IDQ would be fantastic. I would look into the 10" IDQv.3!! will blend nicely in a sealed box with 500rms. It may be a little over powering but honestly i dout it. When you listen to anything besides heavy bass notes it will sound very nicely with drum bass notes and bass guitar notes. I had the 15"v2 and it was very very nice. Blended very well with a terrible front stage and if i wanted to impress people or surprise people the option was still there. When i would play some rap it got very loud. i have some videos in the sig.

I think you are confusing your terminology.

SQ simply means sound quality. A SQ setup that is able to produce the music completely and accurately.

Turning off your subs does not achieve this because you are lacking the low end of the audible hearing spectrum (Sub bass) and therefore your music will suffer severely. (depending on the type of music you listen to)

I would sell both your R's and look into a SQ oriented sub.

Well.. Listen to allot of, Slipknot, Korn, WhitStripes, etc... So with the R's the double bass turns into a sort of rumbling...

How much do the IDQ 10's go for? You said they take about 500w?

Dayton Reference H.O.

i have a ten inch in a .7cuft (net) box tuned to 30hz using a 3" aero port.

it sounds absolutely amaaaaaazzzing!! i listen to rock/metal mostly and it does the perfect job of playing double bass drum, and the bass guitar sounds so real. it has a very tight crisp sound. when you crank the volume knob it actually hits REALLY hard to when you want it to. double bass drum kicks sound so real and accurate and really pound you in the chest. no matter how fast the double bass is it keeps right up and you can hear each and every note, it doesn't just sound like a rumble.

just for the hell of it today i put a few rap songs back on my ipod just to see what this thing can do for rap. i was truly amazed. 30hz tuning is sick for Hypnotize, and the output was actually pretty **** good. the lowest note in hypnotize sounded sick and really shook.

this sub is only $125 shipped from parts express
