Ya. I know even with clipping there isn't anyway that my amp is putting out 3600w. LOLFWIW - buck...even if your amp is fully clipped (which is highly unlikely since nothing would be recognizable as music) it would not produce 50v.If you look at clipping on a scope you'll see the voltage does not increase much once clipping ensues, the shape of the wave widens - it's a current issue, not voltage.
My guess - a problem with the meter.
I used to set my gains by ear, I now use the DMM method as a way to check. My "by ear" settings and DMM measurements are always pretty close.
