Setting gains with dmm

FWIW - buck...even if your amp is fully clipped (which is highly unlikely since nothing would be recognizable as music) it would not produce 50v.If you look at clipping on a scope you'll see the voltage does not increase much once clipping ensues, the shape of the wave widens - it's a current issue, not voltage.

My guess - a problem with the meter.

I used to set my gains by ear, I now use the DMM method as a way to check. My "by ear" settings and DMM measurements are always pretty close.
Ya. I know even with clipping there isn't anyway that my amp is putting out 3600w. LOL

As long as the wire is fused properly we can most definitely get by drawing more current through a short piece of wire than a long one. This is car electronics 101. We don't have codes to keep us from using our brains.

You NEED to get off your high horse, use your eyes a little more, and your fingers a little less.
If a wire is fused properly what difference does it's length make? Logic 101. The code ensures (if referenced) that a wire's ampacity won't be exceeded no matter the period of time. I've seen my share of scary (and downright stupid) shit people have done in their homes and cars. Some have gone up in smoke, some just charred and some still surviving somehow. If you're ignorant enough to think a short wire can carry more current than a long wire of the same size, you'll find out the hard way. I suppose you think a longer fuse can carry less current than a short fuse? You NEED to get a clue.

apparently your fathers shortcoming missed the bed sheets....lower frequencies take longer to develop so yes most times outside of someones car you might only hear the bass....but inside the car the driver and any passengers he/she may have hears the full spectrum of music.....now if you'll stop being so closed minded and do some research you would find that out.
Bullshit. I'm standing next to the car, I hear what I hear. When I'm standing next to mine (or 300' away) I hear the full spectrum. Mine can somehow project mids and treble and theirs can't? Some super mid/treble sound absorption material in that POS? Longer to develop bass? Give me a break.

unless you have current issues, you should be able to get up to +100% power from fully clipping, of which +58% is in the fundamental. the THD is 26%. (I have the proof, but its likely uninteresting to most people). For many reasons, I don't suggest heavy clipping.

In anycase, measurements of power that aren't done with a rigorous test setup can result in different results then what's listed on the amp box. either higher or lower. And if the measurement device can't measure things correctly, you'll get odd values too.

Voltage ****ing drop. How dense are you?
OK genius. Go back and read my post (and yours). You claimed you could safely get more current through a short piece of wire versus a long one. BTW I'm trained on much more than 120VAC and we certainly do have to worry about voltage drop. Are you illiterate?

Very little. Sorry.

I continuously find myself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif at Mc which makes me want to reply regardless of the topic. His obsession with only running 4uA through 4/0 wire and thinking car amps can't POSSIBLY produce rated power and having little comprehension of the importance of voltage drop in 12 volt systems and no concept of real world current draw or crest factor or...all the while trying to come across as some kind of expert beating his chest about all his experience and education.

Again, sorry.

It's cool, I was just wondering because I didn't take the time to read it all.

Lawl...

People never seem to realize how obscured opinions are on SQ.. As long as I can play music daily in the 150's and my vocals keep up, who gives a shit about mid-bass at that point.

Mcintosh, you should really go to that show.. I have a feeling you could shed a lot of your constructive criticism on the heavy hitters. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

That makes sense, so long as its loud enough to cause permanent hearing damage who cares what it actually sounds like? "Impressing" (annoying) others is far more important.

I'm sure I'd be motivated to add 8 or 10 30" subs to my main system to duplicate that sound (as opposed to music). I'm sure a recording studio's system sounds just like that.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif I think I'll stick to high quality, faithful reproduction. 130'sdB has already given me tinnitus but that's full-range, not all bass. Time to flip the album....

....
You really should wash that sand out of your split.

While you may understand electricity in whatever capacity you are schooled you have not a **** clue about competition. You prove it over and over in this thread.
