Ok, so i took advice from here and bought the re sr12 to pair with my jl 250/1. It seems to be a great pair but i noticed tonight that the sub gets very hot. If you look at the sub, its right where the re is printed directly in the middle of the sub. This may be normal but i have never owned a sub so i dont know. and since this sub is rated for 300rms, would i be able to crank up this amp? on my alpine head unit i turn the sub up but it gets to a certain volume and then just stops getting louder. any input would be appreciated.

ok ill check all that out tomorrow.....is there any chance that some unreversable damage has been done? if so i had some guy install it due to my lack of knowledge for all the technical stuff going into wiring and settings on amps. ill need to talk to him

I agree with the other posts. Set your gains correctly, and you should be fine. I had ~800-~900WRMS going to a 15" SR and it got warm, but still played A LOT, without burning the coils. They are great subs, and can take SOME heat. Definitely check your gains.

ok but the sub isnt loud by any means in the first place. will turning the gain down even further reduce that? btw the guy said he had it 3 quarters if the way up i believe. i figured with the amp bein underrated this couldnt be an issue. shows how much i know.

your output may drop a little....what enclosure is this in?

And the amp is?

prefab enclosure? and it is for sure vented?

Setting the gains isn't TOO difficult, but if you are not confident in yourself setting them, I would suggest having someone local come by. That way, you can get the gains set accordingly, and you won't damage your equipment. You'll also be able to learn how to do it, and be able to do it yourself in the future.
