Purchased Car with System and Amp kicks off with low Bass...

OK!

I think i may have figured out the issue.

I want some opinions though.

The Subwoofer set i have is Kicker's 05DCVR124 Dual 12" 4Ohm enclosure.

The Amp I have is Kicker's KX-600.1 Mono Amp.

The Subs are rated 600w RMS 1200w peak.

The Amp is rate 600w Peak and 235w RMS @ 4Ohms.

This looks to me like the subs are being under powered.

Do you guys agree or am I crazy?

underpowering won't do anything. Check the impedence of the subs. Sounds liked they are wired at to low of a load for the amp to handle //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Get a dmm ( digital multi meter ) turn the dial to the omega symbol ( horse shoe looking thingy ) red lead to the positive of the sub(s), black lead to the negative sub(s) , and tell us what number the dmm reads. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yea underpowering isn't going to make the amp do that. i bet they are wired to 1 ohm and the amp is only 2 ohm stable. you are either going to have to just wire it to 4 ohms or buy another amp that is 1 ohm stable. i would say if you buy another amp go with the kx1200.1 i believe it's 1 ohm stable and would pound off those subs!

That amp is rated to do 300 Watts RMS x 1 @ 4 Ohms 600 Watts RMS x 1 @ 2 Ohms that Kicker box/sub combo if they are the original subs in that box should be showing a final ohm reading of 4 ohms. Make sure they are the original subs in that box. You should be able to hook up 2 of those boxes to that amp. Right now your only using half the amps power

i had those cvrs, they were rated 400rms each at 2 ohms. if they are both single 4's they shud be wired to 2 ohm and only underpowering each sub by 100 watts??. unless the actual enclosure is wired to 4ohm between the 2.

ahhh good call. if thats the case ur underpowering them, then it shudnt be an impedance issue unless, like someone else said, one or both of ur subs are wired wrong or blown, or its a wiring issue somewhere else. using a dmm would help alot

WORD!Thats the gear for sure.

bigbear: If I test Ohms with a DMM could I figure our if the Subs are blown??

When i get home Im going to test total Ohms and check the wiring job.

YES , each sub individually will read around 2 ohm give or take .5 ohm. Together they should be in the neighborhood of 4 ohm a little more if you test at the connections on the enclosure instead of the subs. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

all kicker amps pretty much do power at 2 ohm. they are not 1 ohm stable.
tis why I think the previous owner has rewired the subs to 1ohm instead of 4ohm. The kx's I have will play low levels at 1ohm. But you get happy with the volume and the protection kicks in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
