Newbie Questions

Hey guys im new here just thought id stop by and ask a couple questions. My situation right now:

Have a small 2 door coupe.

I have a 2 cu. ft. ported box in the trunk with a 12" alpine type-r in it. I want to keep this box so do you think it will be a good size for the type-x?

The amp is an alpine mrp-m500 wired up to 4 ohms since the sub is 4 ohms also. So im pretty sure im using 300watt rms.

This is my question.

Im thinking about switching my sub and amp setup for more bass and i can get an alpine type-x 12" for a pretty decent price. I know i want to do that sub but im just not sure on the amp.

Im trying to decide between the alpine pdx1000 which is 1000watt rms at 4 ohms, and 1000watts at 2 ohms. The type-x only comes in 4 ohm though right? So if i want to use my second amp choice, the mrp-m1000 (which is 1000watt rms at 2 ohms and 600watt rms at 4 ohms), on 4 ohm too? Or is there a way to run the sub on 2 ohms also?

Also i was just wondering, the sub says 3000watt max, and 1000watt rms...so can i get a bigger amp and run say...1500watt rms? Or will i risk blowing it up?

Sorry about all the questions guys im just looking for this soon so i thought id come ask a crowd that know their stuff!

More info on the box is needed to say for sure. The manual says this:

Gross Internal Volume - 1.8ft^3

Net Internal Volume - 1.3ft^3

So a 2.0ft^3 is larger than specs, but you can go bigger as long as you do not push rated power. So if you power it to say 800W instead of the rated 1000W, you might be OK with the larger enclosure.

Also, the Type-X is a 4 ohm DVC sub, which can be wired either 2 ohm or 8 ohm mono, or 4 ohm stereo. So either amp would work well with that sub. I think the PDX series is dead sexy.

If you run a smaller enclosure, or if you reduce your gains, you can effectively run an amp that is rated for more power than your sub without any worries.

Yeah im not exactly sure the inside volume of the box...but i know it is perfect for the type-r because i had a audio guy make it specific for that sub. But im thinking about the pdx but i want this sub to bump...like i max out the gain and everything right now on my amp with my type r and its still not even loud enough for me. I want to have the extra power jst in case ya know?

its cuz ur not running at even half of what the Type R can take... Try getting a larger amp that does about 800w @ 2 ohms and put it to the type r. it might just give u that thump ur looking for =P

hey man you said your type r is a 4ohm? Its a dual voice coil 4ohm probably which means it can be wire it your MRP-M500 amp at 2ohms...that amp does 500RMS at 2ohms and the sub is rated at 500RMS so its a perfect match....you have the same setup i have.

if you have your type r wired at 4ohms to your amp, trying wiring it at 2ohms it may sound better. You would wire a jumper from one of the positve terminals on the sub to the other positive, then a jumper from a negative to the other negative, then have one positive and one negative going to your amp terminals.

Hmmm ill check exactly how its wired right now, i had the sound system guy install it so im not sure exactly what he wired it to. i thought it was 300watts if im not mistaken
