New DD sub.....Serial #0001

Cute little magnet
Yes, cute little thing.

I talked to DD awhile back about them when they were working on them.

They said the proto was a 4th-order monster.

I'm gonna have to look into that, not sure if the proto-specs made their way to the production model.

Maybe change our van from 10 DD2510 4th order to 10-DD2518 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Or possibly replace my 2 DD3515 6th order w/ 4 DD2518 4th order in my Avalanche.

No offense but why is DD just starting to do this now? Just seems like everyone else has already done this and DD is just now offering it as a "super charged" edition because they put a copper sleeve on? and possibly optimized the topology. I just have known DD for two long as the ones that led the field of car audio. Dont get me wrong it will be a more musical subwoofer no doubt with a much lower inductance (overall just a better product). I would guess under 1mh now if not lower (depending on coil). Its great to see a change like this, just curious as to why they release it as something new and special? I know they posses new technologies much greater then this... or is this just something to keep the people waiting while they come out with some more crazy things?

Can't really say man.

I just know that DD tests, tests, and retests design changes before they offer them.

Their subs are already top tier, and every time they release something new its a notable upgrade. I'm sure they have tested this upgrade and found a notable reason to release it.

I'm not sure if they didn't actually totally change the 2500 motor in other ways and just didn't change the 'series letter' from B to C. In the same shipment as this SC-DD2518 came 2 'normal' DD2512B's w/ S#0001 and 0002.

I have not looked 'under the hood' w/ the new 2500's, but the new top-plate is black instead of chromed. Prolly just a painted/coated top-plate, but you never know.

I understant they test and test non-stop I like that about them as they dont normally release something without knowing everything there is about it. My question is why did it take them so long for this technology. I mean as a whole car audio is a decade or two behind home theater in technology release, but most companies in car audio have been using shorting rings for the past decade.

Its nothing personal to DD Ive run their stuff and will continue to, just curious what took them so long on this one lol. They are out making all these amazing new things and have been for years, its like they skipped a step and went back to finish what they missed thats all. Just glad to see they got em now. Much more musical subs, people will be playing full range off of them in no time lol.

what size boxes are they going to want? average, big, small; info will be appreciated
This is the first SC-DD2518 I have got my hands on, and seeing the S#....its simply 'The FIRST' production one.

I'm going to free air this 18" all day monday in our demo room w/ a DD M1b @ 20hz to break it in.

I'll crunch some #'s then and design/build a box for it.

I see what your saying, but think about it like this.

Back when Adire released XBL^2, alot of people talked chit about how they sounded dry or didn't play well above 60hz. Hell, the guys at SI talked chit about them forever, but then, lowe and behold....the new SI subs are XBL^2 licensed....lol

Perhaps DD tested similar things in the past but didn't like the results, but later tailored existing tech to fit their requirements.

cool i was just wondering if dd sent you some numbers to build around

Didnt think about it that way, you got a point.

I just figured it was because DD was more SPL geared so lower inductance was less of a care to them which is very understandable. Most people dont play subs above 60-80hz as it is but some like to cross them very high and that is where they will see some great benefits to these, just glad they ended up using them.

Yep...and the 60hz+ gripes many had about the XBL^2 Brahma MK2 and RE XXX made me LOL hard. Especially when other sub manu's were the ones bashing them.
