lol... cant ever say I've had this happen before

this is a TC9 motor sub with a unknown softparts

took about 8mins of music at 2000watts 1ohm

never had a coil actually come off like this.

thought I'd share

to much power I suppose? or just a cheap cone/coil?

It looks like it either was insanely overpowered or clipped real bad there looks like burn marks on the coil former and the color of the coil looks rather dark too

You exceeded the thermal limits of that coil Most probably the epoxy on the coil failed from heat and the heat caused the coil to expand to a point where it began rubbing or possibly started locking up, then with no movement to help with the heat things went really bad.

Most probably the epoxy on the coil failed
The adhesive that holds a coil together is a special type of varnish, actually...

2kw is a lot for any 3" coil.. the fact that it happened in about 8min. might indicate that it was also aluminum wire, not copper...

looks like it was more of an 800 watt coil then a 2000 watt coil to me... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
