Is your school having an empty holster protest?

Passing a law that would allow guns on school campuses legally is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. While I'm sure that a lot of people would carry and never use them. There are far too many immature people that would want to pull them out and show off or pull them out as soon as someone said the wrong thing to them. It would be a huge risk to other students and the school staff.

If the school you go to is so bad that you feel like you need to take a gun to feel safe. Instead of rallying to make it legal to carry guns, why not have everyone demand tighter security at your school instead. Random searches and metal detectors at every door?

So you are saying that you would rather be in that room at VT where everyone got killed, than let trained, responsibe, law abiding citizens carry a gun?
My problem lies in the word trained If you want somebody to have a weapon in the classroom I would expect them to have the same proficiency as a police officer, weeks of training and ongoing training as well as use/familiarity with the gun on a nearly daily basis.

If someone was as proficient as a police officer with the weapon I could understand it.

Until then I would rather be at the mercy of God and the shooter. Plain and simple.

You say that we are talking about the CC requirements, well until those requirements are changed I hope nothing comes of this ignorant law, as it is just that, ignorant as the people who have the permits.

Yeah, we've evolved to where the peope that want to walk into a class room and kill a bunch of people are free to do so and no one has any way to defend themselves.
no way at all? You couldn't tackle them? How about airliners, should you be able to carry on there because somebody once jacked an airliner? How about in government buildings. There has to be a line at which you have to put faith in people and the surroundings.

I had no problem at all discussing this with you until this post. You act as though you can only shoot somebody as a defense. If you want to have a serious discussion then leave the extreme, rare examples out of this.

I guess I can't really argue with that. If you want to let someone kill you I guess that's fine with me. I would rather have a chance to defend myself.

and I think that if you knew how good of shots some police officers really are, you would be suprised. For many of them, the only time they shoot a gun is to qualify. Some don't even own a gun besides the one they are issued.

To all those against concealed carry on campus, answer this question.

Would you rather be in a room with a shooter who has free reign to execute everyone there, including you, and have no way to stop him?

Or would you rather be in a room with a shooter and have one of the students carrying a gun shoot him before he kills you?
ummm...I take it that you've never been to New Jersey....people here are insanely stupid. Letting some of them legally carry guns in class would just be a disaster waiting to happen. And who cares if there might be a handful of smart gun owners in the whole school. It wouldn't make up for the one or two idiots that decide to shoot it up. Next thing you know some other gun owner runs in and shoots the first guy, someone else runs in and shots him, then the cops come in and shoot the last guy because he's holding a gun with dead bodies around him.

But yeah, we need more guns in school!!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Since you aske my opinion, I do feel that I should be able to carry on airlines and in govenment buildings. Did you know in Minnesota you can carry in county court houses and in the state capitol building?

edit - Do you want to try to run up and tackle someone shooting at you or would you rather be able to shoot back? I know that if someone pulls a gun on my while I am carrying, I'm not gonna pussy foot around trying to wrestle with him.

Minnesota is a little different than NJ.

Something to think about... My dorm floor last year had 10 rooms. There were a total of 16 guns on the floor. No one got shot. No one went crazy and started shooting people.

the more comfortable people get carrying guns, the more comfortable they will be shooting them, i say more guns=more problems

Think of it this way, how many of these shootings could of been stopped by a CCW holder. Anti-gun laws don't work b/c if people want to carrying they will anyways. Anti-gun laws just tie up the hands of responsible citizens.

I'm not really sure if I like the idea of college kids having weapons on campus but perhaps teacher or staff members I could understand.

Also a quote I once heard was, "When you outlaw guns, only outlaws have guns"

I'd rather have nobody with guns in the room.
Me too. But until the school can completely 100% guarantee that no one will come in and try to kill me, I want to be able to carry a concealed weapon.

Having a gun and all is great for defense. BUT. You have to keep in mind a few things that would be going on if some psycho opened fire.

Adrenaline

Panic

Confusion

I don't care how much of a billy badass someone is, their aim will not be what it was when they were cool, collected, and focused on their training to get said permit. Plus, how much time do you really have before a random bullet hits you. You think a shooter is not going to notice you reaching under your jacket/hoodie/shirt and trying to do something?

A gun sounds like a great idea. But I'd rather be at the mercy of some brave soul thinking of doing something in spur of the moment, and given the circumstances and someone's aim, as effective. Throwing a bookbag, laptop, pushing a desk toward him, etc. Ducking/calling police, etc.

Or hell, tackling. It's not as if the shooter has fantastic accuracy given his adrenaline and nerves. Two people charge, they might take a few, assuming the guy can even get shots off in time.

If you take it out of the context of a classroom and maybe shootings outside, maybe. But I have a slightly better idea, run.
