Me too. But until the school can completely 100% guarantee that no one will come in and try to kill me, I want to be able to carry a concealed weapon.
That's a brilliant idea!
Instead of taking the necessary steps to limit situations like school shootings..... (which I'm sorry, they're going to happen whether or not you happen to have a gun on you, but we can take steps to attempt to limit them).... let's just give EVERYONE a gun. Then all of the stray bullets have an opportunity to kill or wound even
more innocent people....yay! And yes, I'm being serious. I see some serious negatives about more guns firing more bullets in decently large crowds in the rather closed quarters of college classrooms.
I haven't read this whole thread, so forgive me. But can I please see any
independently conducted and peer reviewed studies indicating what effect giving students the ability to carry concealed weapons on campus will have? Has anyone confirmed with actual facts and studies that there is a positive correlation or any true benefit? Or is this simply a case of "it would make me feel better"?
Also, what is the actual number of college campus school shootings to make this such an issue? What is the average number of shootings per year over the past, oh, 20 or 30 years ? How many deaths per students (by on-campus violence...not alcohol, not overdosing, not while out at a club, etc)? I would gather a guess that you'd have a statistically better chance of winning the lottery than currently being killed by a gunman at school.....but that's just an off-the-cuff guess.
I have no issue with gun laws in general. I have no issue with an individuals right to bear arms. But honestly, I can't help but chuckle at those so paranoid they feel the need to carry 24/7 and in every situation or circumstance. Nothing in life is 100%, and you could still be killed in a shooting even while having a concealed weapon on you. Not to mention the risks you are taking with other people's lives if you do decide to use that weapon in a defensive manor.
