Is your school having an empty holster protest?

I'm not really sure if I like the idea of college kids having weapons on campus but perhaps teacher or staff members I could understand.

Jon
How is a college student (with a permit to carry) carrying on campus any different than that same person carrying in Wal Mart? They are perfectly legal to carry everywhere else and no problems arise.

because in most if not all states you must be 21 to carry so ur saying the 18-20yr old students are just sh!t out of luck YOU MAKE ALOT OF SENSE, what a moron

A gun sounds like a great idea. But I'd rather be at the mercy of some brave soul thinking of doing something in spur of the moment, and given the circumstances and someone's aim, as effective. Throwing a bookbag, laptop, pushing a desk toward him, etc. Ducking/calling police, etc.
Good idea. Someone is shooting at you so you push a desk towards him. I can see how that would be much more effective than shooting him. After you push the desk at him, maybe if you asked nicely he would stop shooting long enough for you to call the cops and wait for them to get there.

What are you talking about? That doesn't make any sense.

Just google Wal-Mart Shooting.

Google School Shooting, google Mall Shooting.

I vote to get guns out of here but whatever my vote dont mean shit. Not yet anyway,
The first story was about someone who had a permit to carry who stopped an attack on another. If anything, that strengthens the case for concealed carry.

The last two were criminals who committed murders. Not law abiding citizens with permits to carry.

edit - you noticed the first one.

Push the desk over, as in, knocking him over or off guard to tackle and subdue. There are a lot of ways to take someone out in a classroom that doesn't require firepower.

If you are ever in that situation, I wish you the best of luck.

not if he whipped it out and shot you first. shit he could point his shit through his pocket.
no guns.
There's more than one person in a classroom. I'm just saying that there are ways to take out a douchebag with a gun than having to need a gun.

Wouldn't you want to have the best odds of living through an attack? I don't know about you but I want to be able to do whatever I can to give me the highest chance of living. Most logical people would agree that shooting someone would give them a better chance of living than pushing a desk at them.

Pushing a desk, tackling, throwing shit. This is all assuming he doesn't unload his clip and just leave the room in Do you honestly think that would work better than shooting him? If you do, are you going to be the one that tries to tackle him?

Me too. But until the school can completely 100% guarantee that no one will come in and try to kill me, I want to be able to carry a concealed weapon.
That's a brilliant idea!

Instead of taking the necessary steps to limit situations like school shootings..... (which I'm sorry, they're going to happen whether or not you happen to have a gun on you, but we can take steps to attempt to limit them).... let's just give EVERYONE a gun. Then all of the stray bullets have an opportunity to kill or wound even more innocent people....yay! And yes, I'm being serious. I see some serious negatives about more guns firing more bullets in decently large crowds in the rather closed quarters of college classrooms.

I haven't read this whole thread, so forgive me. But can I please see any independently conducted and peer reviewed studies indicating what effect giving students the ability to carry concealed weapons on campus will have? Has anyone confirmed with actual facts and studies that there is a positive correlation or any true benefit? Or is this simply a case of "it would make me feel better"?

Also, what is the actual number of college campus school shootings to make this such an issue? What is the average number of shootings per year over the past, oh, 20 or 30 years ? How many deaths per students (by on-campus violence...not alcohol, not overdosing, not while out at a club, etc)? I would gather a guess that you'd have a statistically better chance of winning the lottery than currently being killed by a gunman at school.....but that's just an off-the-cuff guess.

I have no issue with gun laws in general. I have no issue with an individuals right to bear arms. But honestly, I can't help but chuckle at those so paranoid they feel the need to carry 24/7 and in every situation or circumstance. Nothing in life is 100%, and you could still be killed in a shooting even while having a concealed weapon on you. Not to mention the risks you are taking with other people's lives if you do decide to use that weapon in a defensive manor.

if one asian kid can take out like what is the death toll now, 30 people....
I think he just switchted the loto odds for ya.
You didn't understand my point.

If 1000 students over X period of time were killed by a gunman out of tens of millions (for example) that attended college over that same time period, statistically your chance of being killed by a gunman is extremely minute. Barely worth a mention and not enough of a risk to warrant concealed weapons on campus.

But again, I don't have the exact figures.....which is why I was asking. I would hope someone taking the stance that this issue is a necessity would have this kind of supporting evidence.
