HT Sub

Finally started construction on new sub enclosure. I'm using one of the teamquakecelica tc9s until I can find something more suitable for ht duty.

Box is somewhere around 4 cubes, ported at 22 hz with a 4" aero.

Box was designed by eD. Triaxial bracing, doubled panels all around, and a triple downfiring baffle. Top is recessed a bit for use as an endtable. I think I may finish in black granite tile or maybe a laminate or veneer.

Will be powered by a Buttkicker BKA-1004A @ 4 ohms.

Pics sofar...

sweet keep us updated
Ps I heard those amps like to catch on fire? their was even a recall on them.
Yeah I thoroughly looked into it. I emailed Guitammer and the confirmed that any new units wouldn't be in the batch with bad caps. Although the one that caught on fire wasn't in that serial number range.... hmm....

Either way it's under warranty for a year.

Big enough speaker wire??
Somebody bought me a Raptor 1/0 Kit... So I had to do something with the 4ga...

what size wire are you running there, and is that a 12 or 15?
It's a 12. That was just the wiring I had on it in the car. I'm probably just going to use some 12ga, but I like the fatties.

Fruits of my labor for today:

There are a few ****ups on the bracing, so I may fill the holes with glue/sawdust mix. These were my first routered cuts, apart from a driver hole every now and again. I think they turned out pretty good.

I'll try to get some actual pictures in the future.

So apparently one of our cats thought that this particular piece was his.

Grrr.....

Forest of clamps.

Finally, someone else that knows how to use clamps. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I love them. They each weigh about 10 lbs and are about 50 yrs old, but they're a hell of a lot better than anything I can afford now. Especially those ****ing trigger clamps. I break one every time I make a box...

shouldnt you have more than 1 4" aero? Wont that make some port noise?
I asked about that, but the designer told me it'd be fine. I think using two would make the port length impractical within the size constraints.

I asked about that, but the designer told me it'd be fine. Who is the mystery person? At higher SPL, two 4" is nice or one 6".

You can model this in WinISD and check the port noise. Perhaps double

check his design or at least post your woofers T/S here so we can double check.
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif No mystery, really... just Chris (mandos) @ eD

I had it in a shitty prefab up until a week ago that was tuned really high for ht and had even less port area (around 9^2 in) and it sounded fine to me. No 20hz rumble, but sounded good with music and my xbox.

I would post the t/s specs, but I'd like to keep my dignity. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif The response curve looks horrendous, and it's about the worst sub I caould use for ht, but I have to wait until I can switch it out. I chose the size and tuning however, so that it'll work with the replacement. Probably a rl-p or tc-2/3000.
