I NEVER SAID I WON COMPETITION for SQ...you said that.I won mostly SPL,originality, and clarity...thats all...there were no set rules for that at the time.
Again not dissing your system, if you like it, cool. But you clearly were portraying it as a SQ setup. Your words, not mine...
Yes it was big,but when we competed they judged Sound quality, the cleaness of install and originality....SPL was the LAST thing...in fact, that was a totally different division.I would put my vehicle that had 18 mids and highs and 4 10 inch subs against anyone anytime and I know for a fact that it would demolish them in sound quality.

Are you sure you dont want to change your story again? 11 trophies for... uhm... what again? Not SPL, not SQ, no set rules... just trophies handed out for 'originality'? Okay cool for you (seriously), but that doesn't substantiate any SQ setup.

And I find it funny you said this... "You may be right...as far as the seperates ..I had all the on electronic crossovers each set at different audio frequencies.Thats just how we did things then.I do know I have 11 trophies..so I must have done something right."... aparently to back up the sound quality aspect of your system. And yet you now say the trophies were for SPL, not SQ, no set rules, originality... etc. If the trophies meant squat to SQ, dont use them as proof of your knowledge on the subject. Again, I just want things above board here.

Id be glad to help you with your next install, provided I have any knowledge that will be helpful.

Cheers.

Looks like the majority that has voted is from the Eras 1986 to 1998...funny because 97-98 is when alot of major companies began to sell out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I gotta say I am OLD SCHOOL. My favorite system consisted of an Alpine HU, Alpine 3331 EQ/X-OVer, Autotek Model 99 and Model 44 amps, 4 Orion XTR 12's and 2 sets of Alpine DDDdrive 5.25" component sets, that setup screamed and slammed. I remember making the display on AC meter say "OVER" LOL

this thread made me want to ask a question... when my wife started showing interest in car audio i called my dad and had him look in my closet at his house to see what was still laying around... turns out i still had some MTX gear from back in the day... so up until about 6 months ago when i upgraded her to all new RF gear, she was running the old school 4300x 4 channel and two of the 275x 2 channels, with 2 12" blue thunder legends... my question to you is...

i dont have a FREAKING CLUE when i got these things... i think it was my freshman or sophomore year of HS, but it really dont know... im guessing 98 or 99... anybody know?

the amps are the old wrinkle finish black powder coat with the gold logos

I have 2 4300x and one 2300x sitting here next to my bed, want to sell me tht 4300x? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif IIRC they are from around the late 90's.

I was helping build systems to compete in "C.A.N", "T.O.W" and the Alpine Nationals......these were the organizations which later merged and became iasca
"Car Audio Nationals" "Thunder On Wheels"

As far as cass decks go my favorite that I owned was the Kenwood KRC999 and KRC999II both bad*ss units with a $1200.00 price tag.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif:D:D

My dad had one of those 999-II's in 1990ish. Helping with that install was how I cut my teeth in car audio. His got ripped off a year later in Miami.

Just necromancing this thread to see if anyone else likes old stuff. I'm not that old, but I am a fan of old school. I even remember the Panasonic "3D" 6x9s, the Realistic powered graphic equalizers, the square Pioneer plastic speakers with their own volume knob, the two knobbed Pioneer cassette players, etc. I remember when Rockford Fosgate came out with the Power series. A buddy of mine had a gold 800a2. I didn't have enough money for expensive stuff. I rolled on Pyramid, Legacy, Sparkomatic (Western Auto stuff), etc. None of those things ever gave me problems, though. They were cheap but did the job. I had a Fultron Tidal Wave that I used for my midrange. A buddy of mine still has it in his car. I got it from a neighbor (who happened to be gay and I didn't know it until later on, haha). I bought a Kicker XS50 back in 2001 and a Kicker ZR600 in 2003. I ended up selling them last year because they were too big for my Celica. Nice amps. What else? I had a little Nippon America 50W amp. It was crappy as heck but never died. I had an MTX Terminator 10"sub back in '99. It pounded good. OK, I feel nostalgic now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

M&M Godfather 12's, G&S Redline 15's, Orion XTR 12's (with lifetime warranty), giving me flashbacks.

Still in love with my US Amps though. Have seen and had some nice equipment, but these are my keepers.

I am too late to get in on the poll... I would have been late 70's.

I intalled my first car stereo when I was 16... in a Pinto!

I've never lost the bug...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I love old school... I had (2) 12's MTX Blue Thunder exterminators...500w max i think...had some mobile authority 12's once...back in umm 1996 i had some RF Punch XLC 8's...man these 8's moved alot of air...Umm...As of now I still use old school stuff. I have a 1996 US-AMPS USA-425, Purple one and JL audio 12w6v1's from 2000. Great stuff, still bangin away with them. I would say RF old school stuff is the best I have owned...from late 90's

Did someone say old school? Well that describes me too! I was in 8th grade the first time I ever laid eyes on a Rockford Fosgate Power 1000 that one of my uncle's friends was installing in his Ford Bronco. He had a Nakamichi tape deck with an EC-200 crossover up front and the power 1000 was pushing two of those cast frame JBL 6x9s and two 12" subwoofers.

Fast forward to now... I am still kicking myself in the *** for selling all FOUR of my non-HD Punch 150s. One was a generation 1 and the other 3 were Generation 2. Oh well, at least I have a couple of Linear Powers along with an old school Orion to bring back the memories!
