I remember my older brother having this huge Kenwood CD player in his car way before most people had CD players at home. It was probably in the late 80s to very early 90s. I remember the face had a cover that flipped up and down to cover it.

I learned a lot from him when I was 15-17 by just watching him do his own installs.

Umm.. you tards all know there is new stuff out taht simply kills the old crap in power, performance and price..right?? right?
power and price yes, but quality not always, better componets were used back then, think about stuff like kicker, rockford and orion, back then all US made with quality parts, now all chinese or korean parts, just simply not as good

We also can't discount the fact that some of those 20 plus year old amps are still running just as good as the day they were first installed! I know because I sold a generation 1 punch 150 to a friend of mine many years ago, and he is STILL using it in his system. Another friend is still running a generation 2 Punch 150 that I sold to him. I remember purchasing that amp on closeout when the HD series came out in the late 80s/early 90s.

But getting back to the newer, cheaper stuff that produces much more power. Since it is made in Korea or China on non-Milspec boards, how long can we expect this stuff to last. Furthermore, if it craps out, what are the chances that the newer production stuff can be repaired?

I've always had a thing for old school Orion stuff....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

I'm gonna run the old school Orions in my Grand National...I think that will be a pretty sweet vintage install....I hope to start a build log soon....the I'm looking at the 2150gx on the subs...a 240gx on rear fill...and go active up front with the 280gx on the mids and the other 240gx on the tweeters...I plan on using the various old school Orion processers in the install as well....

I am still running 2 RF Punch 150's from 89 (3rd gen just before the HD's).

Have been running them faithfully since then till now & actively compete.

Still amazing the new gen of kids with sound quality & raw 'Made in the USA' Punch Power! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

Wish I could find a 2150 or 2200 in the regular gray finish to match my 2300.
