Gain Setting Tutorial

Just a quick question because I am a little confused...

The original post refers to a 0dB Tone...

What would be the advantage/disadvantage of using say a -3dB, as was mentioned in other parts of the thread?

OK, don't listen to what I said hehe. No I didn't blow my sub but I wasn't thinking at the same time. Here is the best senario for setting your gains.

Set everything on your HU flat, I only turned up my treble and sub volume.

Let the amps do the work. Go by ear. Done.

If you start fcking with the controls on the HU (bass boost n shiz), the HU sends the clipped signal to the amps, thus square wave.

Bass boost and LOUD and all of that crap on your HU was designed for low volume scenarios with factory speakers.

You want nice sound clear bass from aftermarket components? Buy an amp.

Sorry I just felt like BS'ing.

I need help setting up my system I have a ed 9.1 and a 12" pioneer premier running at 1 ohm the first time I set it up at 34.6 volts, because that what I figured it out to be the gain was 3/4 the way up at 25/35 volume the bass was strong and great. Sounded awesome, but it overpowered my highs so I readjusted to 32/35 volume and I realized that it might be to high and my hu my clip the system. Also the 2nd time I set it up the gain was only a quarter of the way up and it didn't hit anywhere near as loud as the first time. So I decide that wasnt right so i decide to redo it again for the 3rd time to what I had it the first time, but the gain only went to about 1/2 and it sounds okay, but no where near as good the first time also the third time. The bass on the hu was set to 9/15 so I cant figure it out I have a kenwood kac-x889 is there something I'm doing to through my readings off like this or whats the deal. Also everytime I readjust my gain I unhooked my battery and rehooked it so my settings on the hu would reset so I no I have a flat freqency and I always start the car when I set the gain and always used the same 50 hz 1 db track. I'm about ready to pull my hear out because if it only goes as loud as it does now I'm extremely dissapointed. My old system was a RF 1000bd with two kicker 12" L7's and it alot louder then what I have now. Of course I didn't have the gain set right then, but it never gave me any problems for the 6 months I had it.

my eD NINe 1, i wired my RE SX 15 into 1ohm. i put in a 50hz testtone cd and i get my multimeter. My subsonic is around 32hz my lowpass is around 100. bass boost on 0db, phase on 0degrees now i turn my volume the loudest before it distorts and i get my MM and plug in speak terminal(sub is unplugged) i get 34.6 on multimeter actually it shows up as -34.6 for some reasson. i play real music(after plugiin sub) and its not loud at all. My old cheap amp hits harder than that. so something is wrong cause ive heard the Ed's before and this is strange. help me plz

I need help as well, i have 2 Power Acoustik FX-15W wired into 1 OHM and i have a Lanzar VIBE3100D says in manual RMS is 1700 X 1 at 1.3 ohms peak is 3000 X 1 at 1.3 ohms (i know peak means NOTHING im just giving all info //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ) Thank you ahead of time for all your help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif And will it make a difference that the amp is only 1.3 ohm stable and the subs are wired to 1 ohm? ALSO maybe its just me, but the link for the test tones all of them says file not found on server? Where else can i download test tones? Thanks!!!

If i did it by ear which i dont even know HOW to tell whether or not its clipping than that would make this whole thread pointless??? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I got a quesiton,\

when i tried setting my gain, the voltage that i was getting was jumping between 1.3v and .6v, i was not suing a sine wave , do i need to use a constant note such as a 50hz note?

Tryed the process and this is what i got...I have a polk audio 300.2 running on two channels, 150 per channel but the birth sheet states 180 into 4ohms. So using 180 I should get a voltage of 26.83 (sqrt(4*180)). My subs are assassin 8's which are 4ohm svc rated at 350rms. Now when I check my amp's voltage I get 40+volts! I can turn the gain up all the way with out the subs distorting. Am I doing something wrong? What does it sound like when the amp clips? May radio is a sony with all the settings to flat if that helps.
