Fiberglass ranger door pods.

holy cow, that looks worse in paint than it did in filler, really you rushed those things and that made them look horrible, you did not take any pride in constructing them.

I would have never even admitted to doing that even if it was only my second attempt at FG. You have much to learn before you charge anyone a dime for that kind of shotty workmanship. I would give the guy his money back and apologize for the whole mess you made of his door panels

Why do you not quote my posts when I'm the first person to point out how small those pods were? I never said anything about making an enclosure in the door. I was just wondering why you didn't open up the backs of the pods you made so they use the airspace in the door. If you think they sound good now, try that and you will shit your pants.
Next time, when you're wrapping mold fabric.

1. Have the door panel prepped ( tape it up good)and ready to have the pod bolted onto to it.

2. Make sure your frame work is sturdy and will hold up to you pulling your mold fabric taught.

3. Use a little ca glue and temporarily glue the bolts that hold it to the door panel in place.

4. Use some spray glue to hold your mold fabric to your skeleton.

5. Stretch it good and tight, then attach the pod to your taped up door panel BEFORE you apply any resin. This way your new pod won't warp all to hell while it's curing. Leave it attached to the door panel at least 24 hours. The longer the better actually.

6. Post more pics so we can see your work progressing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm really glad that you are on the board, so I can actually learn something. I should have used fleece, but whats done is done. The speakers scream now, so there wouldn't be any point in opening up the doors, because the guy's satisfied and we'll leave it at that. I will be making a sub box pretty soon for my new sub, so I might be posting up a build up of it in the next week or two. All I need is practice, and I know that. And I'll be using fleece, and about 8 layers of glass on the box, so it will be sturdy as a mofo.

Doesn't have to be fleece. I don't use fleece most of the time actually. I hate the way it pills up. Makes more sanding, and I hate sanding as well lol. I use lycra swimsuit/ dress material that is very similar to a thin version of neoprene. It stretches in all directions, it's thin, and it holds it shape an arse ton better than fleece will ever have a chance to. Patience and prep are 95% of a good glass job //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It was IamDeMan.
Nope, this is the slow season here at work so I post. IamDeMan made that pic btw, not I.
Pics or BS!
as stated before LISTEN TO THIS MAN!!!!^^^^
nDeed.
Well you have to start somewhere.
Yes we do. My first time with FG is documented in here too. It certainly could use improving and things were pointed out. I was greatful for the advice and criticism. I learned one important thing. I hate working with fiberglass

alright ****. I own the truck and I paid him for the labor I was also there to help so I got to learn how and how not to do FB. i think it's awesome.

I'm happy with it and at least we're doing ti ourselves and not getting pounded in the anus by a shop.

I don't car what you have as long as it's coustom and the wat you like it, thats all that really matters and if prople can't see that then you all can go thumb your ball sacks.

P.S i'm the one in the photoshopped pic ( which is awsome BTW )

Well when you do your next build use flease and strech it very tight save you alot of sanding in the end. Here is my door after I streched the flease on it.

You get much nicer contures, and in the end they comeout looking much better.

this is just ****in sick!

Glad to see your getting into fiberglass. Im on my first fiberglass project as well. I have been using Tshirt material for my door pod's, But my next project will be a back dash, so ill need more fabric so ill probably go with something like the swim fabric.

I agree with what they said about stretching and too much bondo. iirc, bondo's meant to be used less then 1/8" thick. Either way i aint hating, keep it up and you'll get the hang of it.

The above pics.....that is a well built and strecthed door panel. Very nice prep work.

Before I comment I will give a little background on myself....I work at a custom shop doing work like this regulary. I started about 8 years ago doing fiberglass. There is a lot to learn to do it right and have less to do while working with it. Don't be so defensive as people tell you what you did wrong. We have all been there while learning it. The advice you are being given is to save you time, money and hassles on your next project. If you get all pissy when people offer advice to improve your work, don't post pics of your work. Not everyone here is a 16 year old kid easily impressed by sub standard glass work. Yes, they look okay in the end. A lot of time could have been saved (along with a lot of bondo) by doing it the right way from the start. Some tips from a pro for the next time you do a glass project....

Use fleece, it stretches well, builds up fast and is cheap to get. Use staples or ca glue to hold your fleece tight in the shape you want the panel to be. Mix your glass a little cold if you don't want your panel to warp as it cures. Use minimal bondo when possible. This is fiberglass you don't want to offset the lightness of the fg with a ton of bondo. Use ultra light or premium bondo to do your filling. It is lighter to begin with and sands a lot easier. Unless you want to sand forever and have a really good eye for it, avoid painted glass. Vinyl and suede look very good and you can get away with less sanding. Paint shows every flaw. When just starting out, carpeted kick panels will get your confidence up and still look good in the end.

I'm not trying to be a dick about your work. I was there once and did things about the same way you did. Listen to people who have done this awhile and you will learn many tricks to make them look better and be easier to build. There is a reason shops charge what they do for this kind of work. It is time consuming and worth the money we charge for it to be done well. Good job on your second project! Stick with it and keep learning. We all started where you are.
