Fall Jeep build Shocker Sigs vs. Stetsom

Box with 4 12's was just too **** big and sounded a little sloppy in 50hz and up range. Junked that this spring.

So as not to be without tunes I did this one up at my farm before I came home. I sort of did up the specs in my head on a long drive when I knew I was going past a home depot. The kid on the saw did a **** good job with the cuts and I had planned it so it used 1 sheet of wood with almost nothing left over. Box was 6 cube tuned @ 37hz. Ceramic sig 12's sound really good in 3 cube tuned to 37 in my jeep.

I decided to use caulking rope to seal the baffle on... this makes things air-tight and allows me flexibility to throw different subs in it by swapping baffles.

Box was pretty rough since I have very limited tools up at my farm. Sounded pretty nice and did high 146's as it sat (moving things around, closing vents, etc, gains a db or so).

Sadly I didn't build these 12's very still and broke the hell out of 3 out of 4 of them... clearly they just can't hang with 3K per sub with only 2 spiders.

Next up, baffle to fit single 18 in this box. 6 cube is a bit small for single 18, but my last neo 18 from last year did pretty well in it. Definitely didn't play as low as the 12's but did 149.1 with no tweaking and sounded fairly decent.

I was beating the 18 pretty hard trying to break it (can't get the old spiders anymore so I need to build 2 matching with new parts). Did this to it while setting off car alarms in the parking lot at Foxwoods casino

I must say I really really like the coil and cone, but those coils don't get me to a good impedence with a pair and celarly this cone doesn't like 6K for too long.

It performed about as good as expected from modeling... like absolute shite. Also aluminum coils don't hang with power nearly as well as copper... I got really pissed and did this to it about 15 minutes after installing it....

Found a local guy that wanted a 6 cube box for a pair of 15's so I made a permanent baffle for this that would do a pair of 15's and flipped it for my cost of materials.

This week I reconed a few 12's and decided to go with a variation of the box I liked the best so far...

I really like the way this sounds in the jeep. Also it doesn't come up too high in the back so it's at least possible to mount and unmount woofers with the box in place. Handles the power very well (though at 4.2 ohm nominal it's probably rising a good bit most of the time and not really getting a full 6K) I think I may be able to drop impedence for a good gain for burps...more testing will be needed.

I left myself some room to cut another 12" hole for a 4th 12, but I think the SPL gain would be marginal when compared to the tradeoff in low extension. And I really don't have any great impedence options running 4 of them.

Later this summer when the new dual 2.8 copper coils for the small gap sig come out I'll do up the neo 18's and put them in a huge *** box tuned @ 50hz and go for a big number, but this box will keep me pretty happy until then.

Blew up a couple of 12's this past week. Ended up plugging up the 3rd hole in that box and just running the pair of 12's. Since it's a better impedence it is about the same output and they do quite well in that airspace, though they're really at the limits.

So got me some new parts for 18's and built up a couple (only going to use 1 at a time, but the first one has already bottomed out a couple times hard and I'll probably kill it quick).

Box is 9 cube net. 2 10" ports, with both ports open it tunes @ 52 hz and should do well for a 56hz peak which my Jeep likes. With one port covered it tunes low 30's. Haven't tested with both ports open yet, low tuned sounds nice and plays + or - 1db from 30-60hz which is pretty cool, but I think it has at most 148 in it with some box and seat positioning.

If high tuning works well I may try something very big with the pair for some competing, otherwise I need back seats so I'll probably go down to 3 12's or 2 15's. May just try to cram the second 18 in this box just for laughs before I scrap it (provided I don't kill the 18 first)

Looks loud!
It is pretty loud, almost pulled a 48 today at Sanford. Was nice meeting you Jon, hopefully I'll have my pathfinder ready next time around. I take it you aren't going to North Conway on the 7th?
