Deciphering sub specs to determine what is "better"?

Some good information in here, thanks! I see I have a LOT of reading to do. So I guess basically my assumption was confirmed that I'm just going to have to go by word-of-mouth, or try a bunch of different ones out or listen to them. Unfortunately the audio shops around here that I've seen so far only carry the big names (JL/Kicker/Rockford/Alpine/etc.).

I'd really like to listen to a GCON, SA-12, and DC3.

Show in CT in a couple weeks. Not one of the New England orgs, an independent show. I hear it's at a shop that used to host a lot of shows so may be pretty good? I might actually show up if I can get anything new built by then.

You do realize that I'm about 10 hours drive from MD right?

Nice, Didn't know the "@" tags worked on here. Whereabouts on the Cape are you? I grew up in Bridgewater, MA. My sister lives in Falmouth.

Yarmouth. A bit farther out than Falmouth, but not quite into the "old Cape Cod" part which starts out around the bend.

Compared to driving corner to corner in Texas I suppose we're neighbors!

Pretty much! I think I can get from here to there faster than I can get from Houston to El Paso. Damnit that state is big.

There is a show 10-27 and 11-4 in Richmond if you can make it down.

Take into account the manufactures reputation and how their warranty programs work as well.

Pretty much! I think I can get from here to there faster than I can get from Houston to El Paso. Damnit that state is big.

hey, they raised the limit to 80 mph on I-10 out between San Antonio and I-20, 75 between Houston and SA now....not as bad as it was a few yrs ago. But yes, it is a big assed state. I live near Longview and to drive to Los Angeles, Ca., El Paso is the 1/2 way mark, lol

I think the most thing about subwoofer T/S parameters is to run them through WinISD and see how well they work out for the best try you need to use. If you need to use sealed box, is qtc reasonable for your box size? Is EBP not to high (high means sub is more suited for ported box). Is F3 either too low or too high? How is excursion management (latest version of WinISD can model this). How does the subwoofer model in a ported box?

Overall though it's hard to predict sound quality from T/S/ parameters alone. It's important to hear the opinions of other people.
