as far as PSU, get a reputable brand. Antec is good, Thermaltake is what I'm using now. I have a toughpower 750 watt power supply. Power supply is probably the most overlooked part of the whole build. Get what you can afford from a decent company.

If you got caviar money, get a power pc and cooling psu. Buy a couple of Maximum pc magazines every now and then too. Lots of good info in those.

budget on the computer is right around a grand give or take a little, I already have a new 22" LG monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse, for sound I this connected to my 7.1 Sony amp.

Crosair is better then any of those brands and 650W is plenty. I still say get that one

Never used Corsair, but i wouldn't say it was better than my trusty Thermaltake or my backup 550 watt neo. I don't do all of that bench testing and all of that. I let tomshardware.com do all of that. As long as it powers my computer, it's doing it's job.

Get a better card, and better mobo.
Just my opinion.
id love some pointers that are similarly priced please //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

both card and board were reviewed very well and are in my range, if you could find better Id surly consider

the only issue is size, some of those power supplys can get rather large and wont fit in some cases
+ Noise ... Higher-end power supplies tend to have higher speed fans which can make more noise (note this does not apply to all high-power PSUs, some 1000W units can be very quiet).
This is what I would do for $1000:

Case - Antec Three Hundred

Power Supply - Corsair CMPSU-450VX

Motherboard - Asus P5QL-E

CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E8500

CPU Cooler - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro

Memory - 4 GB (2 x 2GB) OCZ Platinum XTC PC2-8500

Hard Drive - Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500 GB

Optical Drive - Lite-On LH-20A1S 20X DVD-RW

Graphics Card - Visiontek Radeon HD 4850 512 MB

Operating System - Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit OEM

Anti-Virus - ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus OEM

Is it just me or does Newegg have ridiculously high prices ? I can get that same system in Canada for at least $100 less ...

After adding it all up:

Newegg.com = $1020.85

NCIX.com = $931.25 CAD ($924.01 USD)

Difference = $96.84

will they ship to Wisconsin for same price though?
NCIX is Canadian ... so I'm guessing no ...
It's just surprising that the #1 computer store in Canada has lower prices than the #1 computer store in the US ... Plus they have more regular sales and a pricematch policy compared to Newegg. Of course, Newegg has a far superior website, though.
